Making masters weight for me is adding 50+ lbs. I'm not sure if that is going to work.
The other crazy thing about the weight is that the shifters (ICC) weigh less than that and they have 3 rotors and calipers for brakes. At this weight, brakes become a whole new issue as well. It simple science. The speed carried with that weight, just require a whole more brakes.

It's amazing. People who are 230-240 pounds will be able to run
TAG. At no weight penalty. I mean, I'm all for leveling the
playing field, but how does a person who is that big expect to
even get into a kart? And if you really are that large, what
business do you have racing tiny cars.
It's back to Senior for me. There's no chance I'm going to make the
masters weight. |

i think this great finally a class for the big people , as the father of a 130lb driver and having to add 50lbs to get to 355 in Rotax, i really feel for all you guys. everyone keeps talking about how big people are now a days and that all the light class weights are now to low, well guys bolt it on a go racing. if you dont feel like adding fifty well run light class then we will be there with our 50lbs. _________________ B.Francis, |

and one more thing, you have already set the light or international weight for a guy of 190. so i dnot see where the problem is with having a heavy or masters for guys 230. you cant have your cake aand eat it too, or maybe you just need more cake. _________________ B.Francis, |

wrestlers and boxers cut weight, old guy karters are having to do a doz. doughnuts every day just to keep from buying all the lead out of the dive shops.
my seat is running out of room for lead. |

Joseph, something you said struck a chord (no, not the part about "what business do you have racing tiny cars"). OK, so for us lighter weight people, we have to add weight to equal the heavy guys.
Why not a compromise, we add 1/2 the weight needed to get to their weight, and they lose 1/2 the weight to get to the compromise weight. Each side is giving something here. It's no fun for a light guy to have to add weight, it's no fun for a heavy guy to get beat by the lighter guys. But it's also not fair for the lighter guys to be the only ones giving something up, or added weight. _________________ Tom Stephens

I'm just a rookie and not expecting to be entering any races for a while and I don't have any idea which class I'll be in. But if you think about it, the only practical way to make a system based on weight work in a sport like karting will be to have most people add weight.
The only alternatives are to have everyone weigh the same (not realistic) or to have people lose or gain weight. And obviously there are limits to how much weight people can gain or lose.
The way to accomodate the most people will be to set a weight that most people can attain by adding weight. Having multiple weight classes lessens the amount of weight that has to be added, but it still involves adding weight.
Light weight people aren't penalized anymore than heavy people are penalized. Set the weight classes so that people are adding similar weights to reach their target weight classes (ie, light weights have to add 25lbs and heavy guys also have to add 25lbs). There will some people who will have to add very little weight or none at all, but there's no way to make this accomodation for everyone. The math just can't be bent to work out that way. |

Okay, so what do we do when Oprah wants to race? Up all the minimums
to 500 pounds? Why not make it an even ton? That way, almost anyone
can race. |

Ok, I'm over 35 and I want to race people my age and not 16,17 and so on, but at 405 I have no other choice. To race the younger guys (which is fun) I would have stayed in ICA.
Why so much weight? Don't they say that the older you are the slower you become. It's nature. You don't have the same reflects but you're wiser. Why they want to slower us down even more. We're not that dangerous (maybe some guys who can't look over their belly). Can we find something in the middle, so we can all be happy? |

My guess - I would bet, the number of Masters over 35 driving the Pro Moto Tour weighing 230 lbs can be counted on 1 hand. For the local clubs and regional events, those weights can be adjusted to suit their local drivers. On a national level its too much.
I find it hard to believe, that the average over 35 year old racing karts weighs much more than 190. There will always be some exceptions. Lets see if there are enough entries at that weight to seperate the class between seniors and masters. Doubtful. |

the way i see it is these Tag classes were designed for recreational racers, now since its becoming popular with the masses the base weights for international are to heavy. if they were dropped 20 lbs then masters or heavy would be about right for the average 190 to 200lb guy. then you would have the separation your looking for. when the lighter guys start lobbying for lighter classes we need support from the heavy guys for the good of the sport, or things like this happen its just the way it is. you cant have a 20 lb split between classes, its needs to be at least 35 or 40 or there is no need for 2 classes. have fun. _________________ B.Francis, |
