Ok I have a few questions about TAG and ROTAX. I understand TAG is a touch and go engine. I need a little clarification on the rest of the story. From what I understand there a several different TAG engines, could someone please help me understand the difference between each engines. Is it like comparing Chevy, Dodge and Ford or am I way off? Also I would like to know the difference between TAG and ROTAX. From what I have read about both ROTAX sounds like TAG to me, but I could be misunderstanding. Thanks in advance.

TAG = Touch And Go.

Rotax Max, Parilla Leopard, Sonik VX125, Sonik SL125, Comer, Biland, BM Jaguar, Vortex Rok and Italsistem ML47H are all TAG engines.

Jason, you will need to clarify where you are located and / or what race series you are interested in participating in, to determine what engines are eligible.

Jason,

Mitch is correct about TAG engines. The Rotax engine is a TAG engine, however, ROTAX also has a dedicated race series called Rotax Max Challenge (or RMC for short). This series runs world wide and they have various regional series as well a national and world championship.

If you want to run one of the TAG series (various clubs, regions, etc run it), you can choose from several engines, each with it's strengths/weaknesses. Before you choose an engine, check what is common in your area. You'll want the support of other racers and local shop(s). Finally, because each engine runs at a set weight (kart and driver), part of your choice might be based on your weight. That is, if you're big, you'll probably want one of the motors that allow for a higher weight.

I live in Indiana and race 4 cycle, I was just reading some things on TAG and thought it sounded interesting. Just wanted to get the best understanding of it and I figured this was the best place to start. Thanks for the information so far. This has cleared things up a lot. I may consider running this in 05.

Here is a link to give you some history and what is expected to be a fairly universal set of rules. These rules and specs were only recently published, so you might find some variances at some club programs and a couple of regional programs.
