|
|
I submitted a similar post in the Rotax forum, but figured I should also post this here.
I am looking for real TAG series (all motors inclusive, not only Parillas and BMs) in NorCal where I can run my Rotax, especially during the Summer months (June, July and August). I currently race at Infineon and last year they used to ran the Rotaxes in their "TAG" class of the Jim Russell Karting Championship Series, but this year they decided to only allow Leopards and BMs in their "TAG" class. Rotax will have its own class in a different series (Yokohama Racing Series), but this series have limited track time (one day) and no racing during the Summer months.
Thanks,
Carlos |

There's a 7-11 4 stroke and TAG series listed on the calendar on http://www.Norcal-Karting.com
I haven't been able to find much in the way of details, but still looking.
Prairie City will also be running a TAG class this year, minus the ROK and Biland engines. Not sure of the logic, but that's what Jerry wants to run.
If you have a Leopard, then most clubs will run a class and Region 11 has a Leopard (National Cup) class.
Hope that helps. |

Mitch,
Do you have any idea where they came up with those weights? A twenty pound difference between the RoK and the Rotax? Man, I sure hope that's a misprint or some sort of joke.

The TaG 125 class is an IKF National Road Race class. But, I don't know what IKF used as a guideline, in determining the weights... My guess is that they are guessing and will make adjustments as needed.
Personally, I haven't seen anyone running a Rok yet, even though Racing Karts of North America <kosmickartsusa.com>, located here in NorCal, is an importer.
I do hope and expect to see some Rok powered karts, at the season opener. |

I guess I could do that, but isn't the whole premise of TAG to include ALL spec 125 motors, of which Rotax is one? I thought freedom of choosing which package you wanted to run and who you did business with was the idea behind TAG and one of the mayor complaints against Rotax.
Now it looks like here in NorCal I am "being forced" to go in the direction of the IAME engines, not necessarily because of better support and/or service (which would be the fair thing to do) but by shuting the door on the other packages.
Anyway, I don't like to vent in the EKN forums since I don't think it's of any use. I already raised and discussed some of these issues with the people at Infineon and Russell Karting and I doubt anything is going to come out of it. |

Carlos,
The NorCal class that combines the BM and Leopard engines was around way before this whole taG thing started in the US. Alain Bourdes of ALPHA was instrumental in creating this class by originally importing the BM and introducing it to the NorCal area. The class is very, very popular, with class sizes ranging from 20 to 40 drivers and more at times. Why "fix something that isn't broken"? Thay have a good thing going and it would be foolish to screw it up. Hope this helps.

I took the information out of the 2004 IKF rule book, page 52, section 311, class #13 TAG.
On Wednesday PM, the NCK BOD voted to add an additional TaG 125 local option class, to provide TaG road racers with an additional event that they can participate in. Rules / specs are the same as the IKF TaG class.
BTW, Jim Phillips has committed to bring 3 Rok powered karts to Reno-Fernley... kosmickartsusa.com/vortex/rok.htm. And, Bill Pinzini, while not committed, said; "Maybe," when asked if he would be bringing an Italsistem powered kart. |
