Wasn't it Clay Regazonni (sp?) who broke his back and was paralyzed and went back to drive sports cars competitively?

Don't forget about Wayne Rainey, 500cc motorcycle champion, who was paralyzed from the waist down. He didn't compete, I don't think, but he did get involved in 4-wheeled machines with hand controls. Maybe Alex can get involved in something like that.

I believe Regazzoni may have done the sports car thing as well.

Hi,

Wayne actually competes in the World Super Karts series http://www.worldsuperkarts.com The current motorcylist magazine talks about him and Eddie Lawson at the last race in Laguna Seca. Eddie won and Wayne came from the back of the field to finish in 5th place against a field of international drivers.

Theres a man (can't think of his name right now) that autocrosses a corvete in SS that was in a bad motorcycle accident, he has some nifty hand controls. How do brakes work with somthing like that?

There was also Alessandro Nannini ex:F1 driver for benneton who lost his arm in a helicopter accident. They build a prosthetic arm that actually locked into his steering wheel, he then became a top driver in the Touring Car championship for Alfa Romeo. With the miracles of medicine anything is possible especially if you have the heart and passion for what it is you really desire. I think we will see Alex back at it in some way.

There is a parapalegic in the Speedvision World Challenge GT class with a Ferrari which has hand controls. She accelerates by squeezing a metal ring that goes around the steering wheel, from the back I think, and to brake she pushes it forward. Pretty nifty I'd say. Hopefully Alex will do something like this.

Tom Pomeroy did very well in Formula Vees in the late 70's-early 80's with a hook on his shifting arm and half of a right foot. Both lost to, if I remember right, an electical shock.
