Karting Tracks in America

Does anyone have an idea of how many track are in the US that run karts on a regular basis? What about new track Construction, It seems I am hearing that alot of tracks are being built, Am I just paying more attention to this? Or are the older tracks to run down? Or are we in a state of increased interest in karting?

There is suppost to be a new 2.5 mi. curcuit out side of Harrisburg PA. by next spring. Weather problems has kept things behind schedule. I stopped by there a month or so ago and If this thing is going to happen then they need to get busy!!. Racing in all forms is growing like crazy and can only benefit Karting as well.We have had lot's of new tracks "being built" in my area, mid-Atlantic,that when the green flag finally waves then it's a track

There is a new 2.5 mile course being built outside of Birmingham, AL by Mr Barber of Barber's Dairy. Gonna be real nice. Supposed to be complete by late 2002. Although this facility isn't being built for karting, contacts have already been made. And karts will be one of the first things there.

Darren, I often wonder myself just how many tracks are out there in all divisions of karting I am on a constant search for new tracks and those running as outlaws. There are tons of web sites which list directories, but I haven't found one which was not "copied" from another. The end results is so much old and outdated info including tracks which aren't suited at all for karting. If anyone knows of a reliable FRESH source, please keep us posted!

I did some counting. The JUne 01 NKN lists around 671 kart tracks. That was a hand count and may be off one way or the other. I don't believe that number includes indor tracks.

KartMonster shows 20 registered websites for Indoor tracks. I suspect this number to be low - not all tracks have web sites, and I may not have found all the ones that do have one.

There is a new kart track being built in Grand Junction CO.

I've heard rumors that there may be "a proper shifter kart track" (whatever THATs supposed to mean) going up in the near future near Denver.

Chaz, this is certainly no discredit to NKN, because I recognize how EXTREMELY HARD it is to keep updated with track info; however, most of their listings can not be relied on for an even close count. I have offered to help them with what I learn about as I go along, but just haven't had the chance. I wish more promoters and clubs would take the time to see this info gets updated to at least the major pubs like NKN...that way, when it gets copied, it's more accurate.

As for the track in Grand Juniction, it's true and it's going to be a fabulous boost, especially to Colorado! The promoters have an extensive experience with moto cross and have some top name designers. They are planning to start paving soon. I do not want to spill the beans on the details. This should be their privilidge, but it will have a little something for all! I'll check in with them to see when the'll be ready for an announcement.

I've been interested and very directly involved with Karting for over 20 years, and I've seen 'em come and go (4 diff.operators of oakland valley alone). I can understand the difficulty here on the East Coast alone, I am continually learning of tracks that I'd never knew exsisted. I'm always looking South because I'll be retiring in a few years to Fla., I want to stay involved particularly doing Tech. I know that sometimes it's a thankless job, but in a way it's a way to give back something to the greatest local level sport I've ever been involved with. I've been from APBA, NHRA, DIRT, MICRO-DIRT, RC BOATING, IKF and WKA. The last two are the best even with their many problems and faults.
