The 2008 Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series is now underway with the Eastern Division opener at the Ocala Gran Prix in Central Florida now in the books. With that, EKN releases the first edition of the 2008 Constructors’ Championship with the usual suspects toward the top of the standings. As they did ending the 2007 season in the first spot, the CRG brand begins the new season in the same position with Top Kart and Tony Kart sitting second and third.
Two victories in ICC and a string of podiums gives CRG the top spot in the Constructors’ Championship. Fritz Leesmann (PSL Karting) and Gary Carlton (SSC East) split the victories in the shifter class with Cameron Motorsports drivers Mike Vincec and Cody Jolly each stepping on the third step of the podium in the two finals. In JICA, defending national champion Jarvis Gennari (SSC East) was second and third in his first Stars outing aboard a CRG while Canadian Tommy Beshro (PSL Karting) added five more points with his sixth place run in the first final.
Also scoring two wins on the weekend was the Top Kart chassis with Team Top Kart USA showing strong in the TaG and JICA categories. Chris Wehrheim was untouchable in the TaG category, scoring both victories and joined on the podium by teammate Chris Scribner in final two. Three drivers scored points in JICA with Brendan Phinny earning three points in final one. In the second final, JICA rookie Tyler Thomas posted a runner-up finish with Taylor Miinch rounding out the top ten for the final CC point.
Tony Kart earned victory in the JICA category with Advance Karting’s Daniel Formal behind the wheel. He also scored two additional points with a ninth place finish in final one while Tatiana Calderon (Tony Kart USA) was seventh in both races, to add eight points to the Tony Kart total. Danilo Dirani (Tony Kart USA) flew the green colors in ICC, placing fourth in both finals with Kyle Wharff (Tony Kart USA) placing eighth in final two.
Intrepid is a close fourth with 35 points while First Kart rounds out the top five with 23 points.
