| EKN Trackside: WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Series - Charlotte |
| |
The second round World Karting Association George Kugler/Bridgestone Manufacturer’s Cup Series Driven by Mazda will be at the historic karting circuit inside the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina this weekend for the SSC East/CRG Nationals. The last time the program visited the facility in 2006, entries were over 600 in total. The numbers could be repeated this year around with over 600 recorded at the opening round in Daytona back in December and nearly 450 pre-entries heading into the weekend. No rain is scheduled for the weekend though temperatures will be reaching highs in the low 60s, a great relief for those still shoveling snow.
Entering the weekend, the four Cadet classes currently top the list of entries with over 35 in each division. The Cadet Jr. Sportsman, which runs two finals toward the championship, will be led by Daytona winners Trenton Walko and Austin Self - who also won the unofficial HPV Jr. Sportsman Final while Jake Cole took victory in Yamaha Jr. Sportsman.
TaG had roughly 70 drivers fighting for 30 spots in both main events, which saw championship leader Caleb Loniewski and CJ Lintner earn victories in Daytona. Thus far, 30 drivers are entered to compete in Charlotte with more expected to sign in Friday.
In the Junior categories, four different drivers earned victory in Daytona in the four different classes. Tommy Andersen and Nick Neri took the HPV wins while Arrow drivers Zack Busch and ’07 Triple Crown winner Cody Robinson were up top in the Yamaha SuperCan classes.
Though the numbers are low, the Senior divisions produced some great racing, both in HPV and Yamaha. In his Senior debut, TJ Koyen earned victory in HPV Lite with veteran Corey Reeves taking the win in Heavy. Kevin Nelson was the only double winner on the Daytona weekend (Yamaha Heavy and Yamaha Sr. Sportsman Heavy) with David Kraeer (Yamaha Lite), Brandon Adkins (Yamaha Sr. Sportsman Lite), and Jeff Jewell (Yamaha Masters) rounding out the Daytona winners.
EKN will produce their Trackside Live race coverage all weekend long. Friday will see forum updates in the Official Discussion Thread and photos. Continuing Saturday and Sunday with top-ten forum updates after each on-track session with daily reports and photos from Go Racing Magazine. |
