| EKN Announces 2008 Driver Rankings Event Schedule |

eKartingNews.com is happy to announce the format and event schedule for the 2008 EKN Driver Rankings. The mathematical program - developed through Howden Communications Inc.’s Super Kart Illustrated publication – was moved over to the sport’s leading karting website full-time in 2007 following the magazine’s final issue in December of 2006. Last year, the EKN Driver Rankings placed over 600 drivers in three categories, matching against each other drivers from all across North America.
A few changes have been made to the Driver Rankings following the 2007 season. The biggest move has been the shelving of the ICA division rankings. With the current uncertainty of the ICA division and the lack of events throughout North America, EKN felt that ranking the few events on the year would not help aid the growth of the division.
“The ICA division is a very competitive category and we are sorry to drop it from our Driver Rankings,” said EKN News Desk Manager David Cole. “However, with the Stars of Karting program the only series in North America running the class, it was difficult to justify continuing the ICA rankings.”
The ICC Driver Rankings program remains intact. The SKUSA WinterNational Championship Series and NorCal Kart Challenge will be added to the schedule while the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship in Canada was removed with the departure of their program. Both SKUSA programs were added to the TaG Driver Rankings schedule.
The TaG rankings, however, have changed in format. Instead of the top five finishes for each driver, it will now include the best seven results. Along with that change, the additional percentage of a point that was included to factor in the number of top-25 drivers entered in any one race will now move up to the top-50, simply due to the number of drivers included in the TaG Driver Rankings.
“Moving from a driver’s best five finishes to his or her top-seven will not only weed out those who race only big events, it will help the regional drivers that race 10 times a year move up,” continued Cole. “With over 300 drivers entered in the TaG Driver Rankings in the first year, it was also needed to expand from the top 25 to the top 50. This will give all the different events even more parity, which is what we are looking for.”
The first edition of the 2008 EKN Driver Rankings will be released during the month of March. The following is the Driver Rankings schedule for both the ICC and TaG categories.
