| Team News: J3 Competition - SKUSA SuperNationals Report |
| |
Amid the dry and arid climate in Las Vegas, NV – J3 Competition completed its 2007 racing schedule at the SKUSA SuperNationals. The trip to the SKUSA SuperNationals was the first time J3’s top-tier team has made the year-ending trip to the much talked about event. J3 arrived in Las Vegas with tenth ranked ICC rookie driver Richard Benitez competing in Super Pro and a trio of TaG Senior drivers including Victor Cabrera, Cy Schumacher, and Johnny Johnson.
The event started out on a positive note as all drivers were up to speed in the early practice days. The long week of racing progressed and posed serveral new challenges for the team. The MG tires along with the temperary surface and dry conditions forced the team to change its approach for the weekend. This meant a differnt jetting program as well as chassis setup. Moving throught the weekend all four drivers were poised to gain valuable starting positions in Sunday’s finals. However, Benitez would not be so lucky. A DNF in his final heat forced a sixth place starting position in the Last Chance race. Benitez was unable to make the starting line in the Last Chance race as an incident on the pace lap forced his retirement. This was an uncharacterisitc weekend for the rookie and definitely not the note, which he wanted to end the 2007 season on. Benitez has competed fiercly against the best in 2007 aboard his J3 Kosmic T-11.

All of J3’s TaG Senior drivers had set themselves up well for their respective qualification rounds on Thursday, however, an electrical problem for both Johnson and Schumacher would force the duo to battle from 78 and 74 in their heat races. Victor Cabrera was able to secure a respectable grid position of tweflth after his qualifying efforts. The weekend progressed and the team continuously worked on the their Kosmic T-11 and RoK TT package with their sights set on Sunday and nothing else. Cabrera was able to secure valuable finishes in his heats on Friday while posting the fastest time of the day. Johnson and Schumacher also secured top 15 results in their heat races to insure a grid position on Sunday. Cabrera and Johnson moved forward on Saturday securing the positions they needed for Sunday’s main event. Schumacher would miss his chance at Sunday’s final by only a few spots. The only excitment in Sunday’s TaG Senior final came from Cabrera Jr. who moved from his starting position of sixth to a strong third place finish. Johnson droped out of the final on the last lap while battling for 15th position.
The weekend brought the curtain on the 2007 season while also opening the door into 2008. The Supernationals gave a gliemce into the upcoming season with the emphasis apparent on the TaG category. J3 has continuously worked on its TaG program with the results speaking for themselves.
