The 2007 Snap-on Stars of Karting series wrapped up the championship season over the October 19-21 weekend with the Desert MINI National Finals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Following the same format as the Mazda Race of the Americas opening weekend of the year, the racers and teams were put to the test in order to complete their championship runs. In total, CRG and Tony Kart each earned a National Championship with Intrepid scoring two crowns. Though, it was CRG who locked up the EKN Constructors' Championship after another solid year by all the North American importers and teams. Intrepid finished the year in a comfortable second place spot while Top Kart and Tony Kart tied for third in the overall standings.

As they did for most of the 2007 season, CRG lead the final weekend with a 70 point total in what was the toughest weekend to score points with 10 manufacturer’s scoring double digit points. Leading the charge was now two-time reigning ICC national champion Gary Carlton in his PCH Motorsports CRG. A third in the first final wrapped up the championship while a victory in final two put the exclamation point on the season. Fritz Leesmann (Wunder-Bar Racing) and Chris Carmody, running a one-off race with PSL Karting, recorded a third and a sixth place finish on championship Sunday.

Jake Rosenzweig (PSL Karting) was the top CRG driver in ICA in both main events, finish fourth twice. Cody Jolly (Cameron Motorsports) and class rookie Jacob Neal (PCH Motorsports) finish sixth and ninth adding to the point total. Nicholas Fairney (TrueNorth Motorsports) was the lone CRG driver to break the Spec Racer top ten on the weekend, running eighth in the first main event. In JICA, privateers Miles Maroney and Garrison Masters lead the CRG contingent. Maroney doubled up, running ninth in the first main and eighth in the second. Masters earned a podium finish in the first main while Cameron Motorsports driver David Ostella finished ninth in the second final.

Tied for the second in the weekend totals was Birel and Intrepid, scoring identical points in each of the finals (32-28) for a total score of 60.

Birel enjoyed the return of former ICC national champion Alex Speed, who has stepped back out of retirement to run under his father Mike at the MRP-Birel America banner. Speed’s return was a solid one, taking victory in the first final and a runner-up finish in the second main event. Following a co-victory at the Mazda RoboPong 200 at New Castle and finally 100% after multiple off-track injuries, Chris Larson had his best weekend since joining MRP-Birel America with two-fifth place finishes in ICA. He was joined by Mike Giessen (third) and Western Division champion Nicholas Tonkin (eighth). Jason Toft (Dave’s Performance Karting) scored a podium finish in the first Spec Racer main event and followed it up with a fourth place. Brandon Adkins made his return to the division and his debut aboard a Birel and despite qualifying penalties, drove to an eighth place finish in the second final.

Intrepid ended a great year by sweeping the victories in the ICA and Spec Racer categories along with earning the driver championships both divisions. Only two drivers scored points in the direct drive class, with Champion Racing’s Tyler Dueck and Scott Jenkins each earning a victory. For Jenkins, the win added to his four on the year and locked up the national championship. Also earning a national championship aboard an Intrepid was Canadian Devon Sandeen. Running out of the Checkered Flag Racing stable, Sandeen ran a second and a first in the two main events to earn the title after scoring the runner-up spot one year ago. Rising star Joey Wimsett (Leading Edge Motorsports) added a National Finals win to his CV to end a strong year in his first Senior year. After being removed from the results in the first final, Canadian Scott Rossi (Leading Edge Motorsports) bounced back for a podium run in the second final, crossing the line third.

Sodi Kart ended the year on a high note with their best point total of the year (40) to move them up to seventh in the overall standings. Top Kart and Tony Kart tied for fifth on the weekend (38), keeping the locked for third overall. First Kart was seventh (29) with Italkart (20), Biesse - behind just one driver, Spec Racer competitor Joey Licata Jr. scoring 12 points, and Kosmic (11) rounded out the weekend’s top ten.

EKN Constructors' Championship - Stars of Karting
The EKN Constructors' Championship is calculated using only top ten finishes in the ICC, ICA, Spec Racer and JICA divisions. Each constructor will count their top two finishes in each class. Points will be awarded with a first place finish earning 10 points, down to a single point for a tenth place result.
