Kent karting ace, James Dixon, is aiming for one of the biggest prizes in international karting next weekend, as he heads to the European Championships at Salbris in France.
The 17-year-old Candy Carriers backed driver is confident of a top result after already stepping onto the podium at the venue earlier in the season. The JRP racing team run Maranello Kart that James races is a proven package and he is keen to break into the winners circle during the weekend.
"I'm going to Salbris looking for the best result possible next weekend," said James. "I’ve been training even harder than normal in the run up to it as I want to be as fit as I can be. I've already taken a podium there and the chassis and engine package we have works well. The European Championship is one of the biggest events on the karting calendar, so it would be fantastic to get a good result.
The event will also be one of the final ones of the year for James, as his season almost draws to a close. However, if he has a good meeting in France, then he will automatically qualify for the World Championships at Mariembourg in Belgium at the end of September, where the spoils would be even bigger.
“A trip to the World Championships would round my season off nicely,” he said. “It obviously doesn’t get any bigger than that and if I could bring back some silverware from both of those events it would be brilliant. I know that it is going to be extremely tough, though.”
With both events being ‘one-off’ meetings, the pace and pressure is going to be huge, but Dixon is more than happy to soak this up and is eager to get out on track in France, before starting a major testing schedule at the Belgian track.
“I know that it is going to be a hard weekend at Salbris and the World Championships will be on another level completely, but I know that I can race at the front with the best Europe has to offer, as I’ve been doing it all season. I haven’t raced at Mariembourg either, so we’ll have to get some serious testing in before the end of September too,” he added.
James will take to the track on Friday for free practice, before the timed qualifying and the heats start on Saturday. The all-important final takes place on Sunday afternoon.
