Superkarts! USA Announces New Southwest Region

Superkarts! USA has announced the addition of a new race series to its regional program. The Superkarts! USA Southwest Region will tie into Tucson-based P1 Kart Circuit’s new series dubbed, the Desert Kart Challenge (DKC). SKUSA’s new region will loosely cover Arizona, Utah, Nevada, New Mexico and Northern Mexico, and will be headed by Charles Quiroz, who has taken Arizona kart racing to the next level with his first-class P1 Kart Racing facility in Tucson.

In an effort to establish the new region immediately, Superkarts! USA will enlist the “A” team from its ProKart Challenge series to assist in the launch, which is set for April 7 (with an official DKC practice day on April 6). The “A” team includes race director Steve Buckner and the rest of the PKC support staff. The Desert Kart Challenge will run the SKUSA rules package, SKUSA spec MG Tires and the SKUSA spec VP Fuel/Motul Oil combo. In order to qualify for points and prizes, participating drivers will be encouraged to become a member of the SKUSA organization.

“This region and series is so important for us,” said Superkarts! USA CEO Tom Kutscher about the first official addition to his regional program, adding, “We are excited that we are finally moving forward in an area that will determine future growth of the SKUSA organization. Our message is clear with this SW region, offer the same value to the karter here in the desert as they’d expect at the beach...relatively speaking of course.”

“Anyone who is familiar with the ProKart Challenge Series will automatically feel at home in our new series,” says Charles Quiroz about the Desert Kart Challenge. “The look, feel and attitude is all SKUSA, while the race day program is nearly all ProKart Challenge- in fact, we’ll follow the PKC formula of adult shifter and TaG classes to start, as well as immediately adding a TaG Junior class to the mix.”

Quiroz expects the marketplace to ultimately dictate his entire program in due time, suggesting the Desert Kart Challenge could always add additional classes as the program grows. “Other classes could include the SKUSA S5 Spec Jr. program, as well as a kid and cadet class down the line.”

The entire Desert Kart Challenge schedule will be based primarily at the P1 circuit in its inaugural year. The series will consist of two daytime events and four night races. The Tucson summer is hot, and in order to accommodate racers during the course of the season, nighttime racing is a must. DKC participants will have no issues peering out of their clear visors, as P1 has recently installed a new MUSCO Lighting system - a system Quiroz confidently calls “the best in the country.”

Additional Desert Kart Challenge announcements are forthcoming, and will include news about a spectacular season ending race on a temporary circuit, as well as information about the official series website and it’s impending launch. Until then, all launch information will be available on ProKart Challenge website (www.prokartchallenge.com) as well as the P1 Kart Circuit site (www.p1kartcircuit.com).

“Our message is clear with this SW region,” says Kutscher grinning. “Offer the same value to the karter here in the desert as they’d expect at the beach...relatively speaking of course.”
