Completing a weekend sweep, Gary Carlton dominated the SKUSA SuperNationals X SuperPro Final over his PCH Motorsports teammate Alex Speed outside Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, NV. After running fastest in qualifying Friday, Carlton went on to win all three heat races over the weekend to secure the pole for today’s Final where he led all 25 laps.
Off the line, Carlton took the lead followed closely by Speed. The duo, aboard identical CRG chassis powered by SwedeTech Maxter ICC motors held formation in the early laps building a healthy lead over third place finisher Gian Pierro Cavaciutti (GP).
Speed stayed close to Carlton through the majority of the race but in the closing laps, he began losing ground to the leader. On the podium, Speed - the younger brother of American Formula One star Scott Speed - said he clipped the inside of a corner and may have effected the handling of his kart. This was the culmination of a great year for Carlton who was crowned the ICC National champion in September.
Rounding out the top five SuperNationals podium was former SuperNationals winner Tad Funakoshi (Italkart) and Las Vegas resident Matt Jaskol (Top Kart). Carlton received a $10,000 check from SKUSA for taking the win while the rest of the top five split another $10,000.
Other winners on the day include James Kennedy (125cc Semi-Pro), Darren Elliott (125cc Masters), Daniel Morad (TaG Senior), Travis Irving (TaG Masters), Connor DePhillippi (Stock Honda Lite), and Jeff Littrell (Stock Honda Heavy).
