True North Motorsport driver Max Riddle is set to head across the pond to compete in one of the biggest event of his young karting career. The national level competitor will look to fight for the victory at the Rotax Grand Final at the Karting Circuit of Viana in Viana De Costello, Portugal.
The 16-year-old Riddle was invited overseas after claiming the final podium position in the Rotax Junior division at August’s Canadian National Championships in Edmonton, Alberta. The young competitor had an up hill battle in the final but overcame all odds to score the podium result.
“I had to start the final in the 10th position” explained the Canadian driver. “I knew it was going to be tough but throughout the week long event we were three to five tenths quicker then everyone. Some qualifying troubles set us back and once the final started my engine bogged and I fell to 15th but I knew we had the package and I was determined to go to the front.”
“Max drove a smart race” stated True North President and tuner Kevin Loster who will accompany Riddle to Portugal. “He is mature beyond his years and picked his moves wisely. I have no doubt that Max will be fighting for victory in Portugal.”
With the event taking place November 14-18, Riddle and Loster will arrive in Portugal on the 13th, Monday morning. From there, they will build the spec chassis and prepare the necessary equipment to hit the track Tuesday afternoon.
Though 2006 has not come to a close yet, Riddle is looking onward into 2007. The talented British Columbia resident will run for the championship in the Stars of Karting Spec Racer division as well as some selected ICC events throughout Canada. Riddle will no doubt be back behind the wheel of a Rotax kart come August 2007 as he will look to garner another invitation to the ’07 Grand Finals.
