The 2006 World Karting Association Manufacturer’s Cup series announced its class champions over the weekend with 19 classes decided. The only class not yet determined is the TaG division as the class’ results from the series finale at Badger Raceway is still under protest and will be discussed at the next board meeting November 11. This year, Ohio native Brandon Adkins led all drivers, earning his first ever Triple Crown.
The Stars of Karting Spec Racer national champion took three titles and a runner-up after all the calculations were completed. Adkins swept the Lite divisions, taking the HPV Lite, Yamaha Lite, and Yamaha Sr. Sportsman Lite. Both the HPV and Yamaha Lite titles were close, edging Craig Baltzer by six points in HPV and Tony Jump by nine points in Yamaha Lite. In the Sportsman division, he ended with a 55 point advantage over Jump. Adkins also finished second in the Sportsman Heavy category to former Triple Crown winner Corey Reeves.
Reeves feel short of another Triple Crown, only earning two titles, the Sportsman Heavy and the HPV Heavy over Cale Wyse by 31 points. The Wisconsin native also finished second in the Yamaha Heavy division, 82 points behind Kevin Nelson.
Two Junior drivers recorded double championships, Cody Robinson and Christian Pahud. Robinson swept the HPV Jr. category, edging C.J. Lintner in both the Lite and Heavy divisions while Robinson swept the Yamaha Jr. SuperCan classes over Conor Daly in the Lite group and Lintner in the Heavy division.
Other drivers earning championships include Wesley Boswell (ICC), Chris Keller (ICA), Jeff Jewell (Yamaha Masters), Derek Wagner (JICA), Spencer Pigot (Cadet Jr. Sportsman), Nick Neri (HPV Jr. Sportsman), and Cody Humphreys (Yamaha Jr. Sportsman).
The championship counted the best three finishes out of the four national events or a driver’s best two Man. Cup finishes with a best divisional finish. Next season, the schedule will extend to five events, including the Grand Nationals in June at the USA International Raceway and the series making its debut at the New Castle Motorsports Park for the season finale in September. |
