Team News: Conlin SpeedSports - RoboPong.com 200

Conlin SpeedSports returns to New Castle Motorsports Park with their all female driving team October 15 to compete in the second annual 200 mile TaG endurance race, this year sponsored by RoboPong.com. Team drivers Dana Conlin and Tracy Conlin along with guest driver Lynsey Tilton hope to improve on last year’s performance.

In 2005 the team, then joined by Florida racer Kaitlin Mangham, ran as high as 11th in the 43 team field before brake problems dropped them back and engine failure ended their race with less than 25 miles to go.

According to team owner, Jim Conlin, the team has learned from last year’s experience and has worked this season to find solutions. “We’ve worked with Bad Goat Racing on improvements to the Biesse brake performance in a long distance race,” Conlin says, “and we are very excited to be working with Stoney Creek Motorsports and using the torque and reliability of the Biland SA250 for this year’s race.”

Lynsey Tilton, 19, originally of El Cajon, California and now living in Martinsville, Indiana, used karting to launch her career in motorsports winning three karting championships while still in the junior ranks. In 2004 she was named the Arizona Midget Association’s Rookie of the Year, finishing third in the drivers standings. In 2006, Lynsey competed regularly in the Ford Focus Midget Series and stepped up to Sprint Cars for several races. She hopes to put a Sprint Car program together for 2007.

Sisters Dana and Tracy Conlin, 23 and 20, of Hilliard, Ohio, have raced karts successfully at the local and regional level for six years. Between the two of them the team has 42 race wins to its credit. In 2006 the ladies competed in the Jim McCollough Racing TaG Senior class of the Great Lakes Superkarts USA! Klein Tools Pro Tour with Tracy finishing third and Dana fourth.

In addition to being the only all female driving team in the 2005 race, the Conlin SpeedSports drivers were also the only females drivers even entered in the event. For 2006 Conlin SpeedSports will share that distinction with the team of Champ Car rookie stand-out Katherine Legge and Indy Car driver Sarah Fisher who are teaming up for their own effort. Other notable drivers entered in the RoboPong.com 200 are 2005 Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon, Indy Car drivers Scott Dixon, Vitor Meira, Tomas Scheckter and Jeff Simmons, NASCAR’s Ricky Rudd and karting stars Paulie Haraka and Conor Daly.

Former Indy 500 driver Mark Dismore, owner of New Castle Motorsports Park, has been working hard to promote the endurance race as the “Indy 500 of karting” and has gotten the attention of TaG drivers and owners with $20K in purse money as well as the novelty of racing against some of open wheel racing’s best drivers. Explains Conlin: “We’re hobbyist when it comes right down to it but Mark Dismore has given us regular folk a chance to rub wheels and really compete with the best drivers in the world. Where else are we going to be able to do that?”

The Conlin SpeedSports entry was the very first one received by New Castle Motorsports Park this year. Support for their effort comes from Infonetics, Inc., Biesse Kart importer Bad Goat Racing, Biland importer Stoney Creek Motorsports, BGR Graphics, POWERsports and BW Tire Goodyear. “Without the kind support of these companies we wouldn’t be able to be competitive in this great event,” adds Conlin
