It was a sunny and very humid day with the temperature feeling like its over 100 degrees for a full day of practice for the Barber Pro Kart Invitational at Barber Motorsports Park, just outside Birmingham, AL. A total of 114 karts will make up the two groups on the weekend. Both received three 10-minute sessions on the day before heavy rain came down right before they were about to hit the track for their fourth and final session of the day. Unfortunately, the scoring system was not set up until the fourth session, thus there are no official times to display on the day.

The United States Superkart Championship Eastern Division is contesting their third round this weekend. Reggie Brown Jr. leads the Formula E standings and will look to extend his lead margin as second place Frank Widmoser was unable to attend with a death in the family and third place J.R. Osborne has moved to the ICE aboard his P-1/GasGas machine as the FE kart sits in Germany for the third round of the CIK European Championship. Fourth place Eastty is pulling double duty this weekend as driver and crew chief, running a solo operation as the rest of the Nemesis squad is busy at home. Johnny West has brought his pair of FE machines and will look to move up in the standings this weekend.

Kiker continues to look strong during the Friday sessions but Osborne and his monkey wrench Ted Dale are working vigorously at getting their package just as fast. Jim Ingram will look to gain some points on Kiker this weekend as it is a double points weekend. So with a win, Ingram can cut Kiker point advantage.

Also running in the same group as the USSC is the Super Kart Illustrated Formula 125 Enduro Challenge. The usual suspects are in attendance with April Barber winner Mike Spear Jr. looking just as fast as he did then while Scott Fiesler, Brian Wilhelm, and Mitch White running well today.

With the Big South Road Racing Series hosting the event, a few of the regular World Karting Association classes are running this weekend. In the fast group are the Unlimited and Formula 100 divisions. The second group of the weekend includes the 125cc Sprint Shifters along with the Spec 125 Sprint (TaG) and 80cc Sprint Shifter. Former SKI Road Racer of the Year Chad Dokken was offered to drive a Wild Kart package with Komyati Motorsports as his regular CKI machine is on its way to New Hampshire for the WKA Dunlop Road Race Series event. The MVG Motorsports driver has won the previous two events with the Grand American series.

EKN will have complete Saturday morning results as the karts run their only session tomorrow at 8am followed by a dinner BBQ at the Harper estate near the facility.
