 | | Curtis Cooksey in the Rotax powered machine |
Team Acceleration made the drive from Las Vegas to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT the weekend of the 25th to compete at the Summer Shootout. This is the third year in a row they have held this race and the first one at this track. The Miller Motorsports Park is a beautiful facility with nice rest rooms, fully paved pits, and other nice luxuries not found at most kart tracks. The kart track itself is one of the best in the country, 30 feet wide, 0.89 miles long, and several different configurations available.
Curtis Cooksey was the sole driver for Acceleration but with the help of tuner Jeff Nelson he was able to race the Stock Honda Shifter Light class and the Rotax International Class. The Acceleration Stock Honda, CRG Rebel Havana led every lap of the final to win the race. Rotax International was a little tougher and Cooksey was able to finish second with a new CRG Blackstar chassis.
July 1st was the 5th round of the Gatorz Karting Challenge at Streets of Willow. It is only 4 hours from Acceleration's home base in Vegas and always a popular race because of its fast layout. Curtis Cooksey with tuner Jeff Nelson entered two classes again but this time it was DD2 and Rotax International. Roger Scott Jr. with his Dad tuning raced the Rotax Junior class.
CRG chassis dominated the race as they won Rotax Jr., Rotax International, Rotax Masters, and DD2 classes. The race was perfect for Team Acceleration with Roger winning the Rotax Jr. class on his new CRG Blackstar chassis and Curtis winning the DD2 and Rotax International classes. Roger led from start to finish in the main. Curtis easily won the DD2 class even passing the shifters that started in front of the DD2 and TAG classes. Rotax International is always tough and Curtis passed Joey Collins for the lead on the 6th lap and never looked back, winning with a comfortable 1.2 second advantage.
