Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Application
For those interested in being part of the Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shoot-out, you are encouraged to download the form HERE or visit their website at http://www.skipbarber.com

The Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shoot-out is the largest and single most important event for karters transitioning to race cars. Drivers like A.J Allmendinger, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Joe D’Agostino, Patrick Long, and others are examples of drivers who have used the Skip Barber ladder system to propel their professional motorsports career. They are happy to announce they are now taking applications for the 2006-2007 Karting Scholarship Shoot-out.

The first year for Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shoot-out was 1998 with names like Valiente, Giebler running in a 2-day run-off, with eight drivers at Sebring and the other eight at Laguna Seca. In 1999, all 16 drivers battle at the Sebring circuit for the scholarship prizes. The 2005 Shoot-out was the first year of the “open” style. Including the “Sweet 16” invitees, other karters meeting the requirements joined the Shoot-out, bringing the total number of drivers to 46. Last year’s program had 59 drivers.

''Over the 10 years of the Shoot-out, it's become the largest and single most important event for karters who want to transition to race cars,'' says Rick Roso, motorsports marketing manager for Skip Barber Racing. ''Take a look at those winners’ names, and you can see what we mean. And even for those karters that don't win a sponsorship, they've gotten three days of lapping and testing in the R/T 2000, plus world-class instruction from more than a dozen top coaches. That's really valuable in and of itself.''

This year’s Shoot-out will be limited to 50 karters total, including the “Sweet 16” selected by a panel of karting industry leaders and Skip Barber officials. All Shoot-out sessions are conducted in the R/T 2000 with the best drivers getting a chance to earn sponsorships up to $40,000 and more than $100,000 in total being awarded. Drivers will have three days of on- and off-track assessment and will be judged on whom has the greatest auto racing potential to receive scholarships to compete in the Skip Barber National presented by RACER or one of the four Skip Barber Regional Race Series.

Last year’s winner, Alexander Rossi of Nevada City, Calif., won a fully paid season for this year’s Skip Barber National series and currently sits second in the standings after four rounds, earning a victory in the last race at Virginia International Raceway in April. Other drivers that were awarded prizes from last year include Stars of Karting competitors Ricky Taylor and Joel Miller and the current leader in the Skip Barber National Championship Marco Di Leo.
