Racing ended on day two of the opening round of the United States Superkart Championship with the sun setting behind the Alabama hills surrounding the Barber Motorsports Park. The USSC Prefinal was included in the last race of the day that began late for everyone as rain showers continued through the night and stayed, delaying things until 11am. All the races were cut to get them all in, fortunately the USSC group got their entire 30 minute Prefinal.
Eastern division USSC champion J.R. Osborne backed up his qualifying run by leading the Formula E Prefinal flag-to-flag. It was a one-two finish for the P-1/BRC250FE package as Reggie Brown, Jr. finished second, his first finish in USSC competition in almost two years. Last year’s Prefinal winner Frank Widmoser and Jerry Echols had a great battle for the third starting spot for tomorrow’s 30 minute Final, with Widmoser getting the slot by just a couple kart lengths. FE National Champion Johnny West had some troubles today and will start tomorrow from the fifth spot.

Kiker continues to show why he is the two-time defending Intercontinental E champion. At the start, he fell victim to Tim Richardson and James Ingram. The trio had a great race for the first half of the race until traffic separated Kiker from the two. Ingram and Richardson would continue the fight with Ingram claiming the outside pole starting position for tomorrow’s Final. USSC newcomer Jason Slahor will start fourth next to Richardson with Michael McAlister rounding out the top five.
In the SKI Formula 125 Enduro Challenge today, Mike Spear Jr. grabbed his first series win since Daytona KartWeek 2004, which gave him the ’04 championship crown. He and fellow series champions Scott Fiesler and Brian Wilhelm battle for most of the 30 minute race. Wilhelm eventually retired after a flat tire ended his day, handing the final podium spot to Mitch White.
Other winners from the day include Randy Fulks picking up two wins (Yamaha Sportsman Medium and Yamaha Heavy). Chad Dokken edged out Eric Freiberg at the line for the CIK 125 Sprint win. Dokken also picked up a victory in 100cc Piston Port Lite and in the hunt for the Spec 125 Sprint victory until his water pump belt broke and seized the engine. In WKA/ICC 125 Sprint, Jim Russell Jr. won over Joe Komyati. Robert Varga beat out TS Racing teammate Bret Spaude for the Spec 125 Sprint victory.
EKN will have a Sunday report sometime tomorrow evening with full official results to be posted either Sunday night or Monday morning.
