Northern California Karters held their annual event at Infineon Raceway this past Saturday and the event and all participants were presented with great weather and great racing. Over 200 entries made this a major event to wrap up the season in Northern California. Many people made the trek from the Northwest and Southern California areas and one participant came from as far away as Chicago.

The biggest class of the day was TaG Light with 23 entries and won by Justin Bresee, with Tim Cleland second and Scott DeWitz third. Bresee and Cleland swapped wins in the two heats and Justin came out on top with the win in Heat 2. Formula 125 Limited had 21 entries and saw some close racing however Bobby McCourt took the win in both heats, Darrell Hulford compiled a second place finish in the overall scoring and Robert Miller achieved third place.

The new Stock Moto 125 class saw a fine turnout with 13 entries in the 2 heat class, won by Greg Lindahl, with Keith Videtto second, and Andre Cyr third. Nine of the drivers also entered the 30 minute race earlier in the day and Lindahl took the win in that class as well along with Videtto again in second and Shannon Criss rounding out the podium. About half of the entries in these classes had not participated in a Road Race before. For those folks wondering if a Stock Moto is fast enough, the fastest F125 time of the day was 1:47.311 (open motor). And, the fastest Stock Moto time of the day was 0.10 of a second faster at 1:47.211 (stock motor) and this is in the context that the number of built F125 shifters out numbered the Stock Motos by almost 2 to 1.

The 80cc Shifter Laydown class had 12 entries, largely supported by the people coming from the Northwest to attend the event. Stan Park took the win in the 2 heat format, and Don Holmboe achieved second, with Kevin Sackville in third. Yamaha Limited Light Sprint saw strong support with 12 entries, and Jim White compiled a first and second in the 2 heats to score the overall win, followed by Ray Bobo in second and Mike Estrella scoring the win in Heat 2 to pull up to third overall. The new World Formula class had 6 entires, and the podium results were Michael Schorn with the win, Dick Jamison in second and Terry Ives in third.

The one blemish on the day was the loss of Paul Clifton's kart in a fire early in the day during practice. Clifton, who had suffered the loss of his fine Troy Ruttman award winning TaG-E Laydown due to theft earlier this year, had come to the event with a replacement TaG-E and in a bizarre incident had contact with another kart that was spinning out and this dislodged the carburetor resulting in a fire. Fortunately there were no injuries however the kart is almost entirely a loss. The NCK Board is investigating the circumstances and will be looking for improvements both in their own operations as well as recommendations to Infineon Raceway.

NCK would like to thank all of the participants that came to the event, both to race, as well as supporting all of the things that need to be done to pull off an event of this size. Full results will be posted on the NCK website, http://www.nckroadracing.com and the 2006 schedule will be available real soon. NCK will be kicking off the IKF Regional program with a race at Infineon on Saturday, March 18. Details will be posted soon.
