After combing the paddock talking to the major teams in Las Vegas for the SKUSA SuperNationals, EKN has dug up big news. The EKN team has learned that 2004 Super Kart Illustrated Driver of the Year Alan Sciuto will be added to the SuperPro entry list tomorrow when he re-joins Extreme Karting as a last-minute addition to the field. After focusing on his development in the junior formula car ranks this past summer – a program that included stints in the Skip Barber National Championship, Star Mazda and Toyota Atlantic – Sciuto accepted an offer late Wednesday afternoon from Extreme’s Tom Kutscher to get him back on the paddock for this year’s event.

Sciuto came within a handful of turns from winning last year’s SuperNats main event, dropping out of the lead on the final lap when his engine stuck on the backshute. Kutscher used last year’s disappointment as the primary hook to attract the young star, telling his former driver that there was unfinished business here at Sam Boyd Stadium. Sciuto was an Extreme Karting team driver when he made his debut on the national scene, running a CRG to the 2002 SKUSA ProMoto Tour Formula Junior championship, the SKUSA SuperNats win and the SKI Young Driver of the Year. The Californian would later move to the ICC category in 2003. In 2004, he was the final ProMoto Tour champion and ran a streak of podium finishes through the season until his eventual SuperNats meltdown.

Expected to arrive late this evening (Wednesday), Sciuto will run a new GP7 with a yet-to-be-announced TM powerplant.

EKN will have a number of updates on Thursday, including a track description and on-board video, final practice times and a full package of notes from the paddock.
