Saturday was another hot day at the Motorsport Ranch for the United States Superkart Championship Eastern drivers as the drivers took to the track today for the 21 lap Prefinal to line them up for tomorrow’s Final.
During the hour warm-up session in the early morning, the track was the quickest it had been all weekend so far with times dropping for a few drivers. Formula E pilot J.R. Osborne was able to break the 1:10 barrier during the morning while Intercontinental E hotshoe Andy Kiker (Anderson/Honda CR) skipped the morning warm-up session to get some extra sleep and save his equipment and body for the Prefinal.
After two warm-up laps, the green flag dropped. Derek Eastty (Nemesis/BRC) jumped out to the lead over pole setter Osborne. The two were close until lap two when Eastty lost control of his machine in the esses and spun in front of the crowd. He was able to get going just in front of third place Johnny West (MSR/Honda RS) and the rest of the pack. Eastty, running the quickest laps of the race, was able to catch Osborne and pass him for the lead. While in the lead, Eastty again spun in the same corner and flat spotted the right rear tire. Eventually, the tire expired and forced him to pit and lose a lap. That handed the win to Osborne, who cruised to the victory with West moving up to second, getting quicker every session he hits the track. Eastty managed to finish third in the five car field as Jim Brannon (MSR/Honda RS) continues to have troubles this weekend and Firouz Haghighi (P-1/Yamaha TZ) lost his chain after just one lap.

In the ICE division, it was smooth sailing for the defending ICE champion Kiker. The New Jersey resident was the third fastest kart on the track and finished second overall, roughly 40 seconds behind Osborne. Jim Ingram (PVP/GasGas) was quick early but was not able to keep up with the faster Kiker. Later in the race, his gearbox began to lose oil during the 21 lap event. Fortunately, his package stayed together long enough to finish second in class. Ohio’s Ardi Sadeghi (Anderson/Honda CR) was able to find two seconds after yesterday’s qualifying and moved up to start third for tomorrow’s final with 250 superkart newbie Scott McQueen (Anderson/Rotax 257) picking up the pace as well to finish fourth. Michael McAllister (Anderson/Honda CR) rounded out the top for the ICE division and should be in the hunt for the podium tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s weather looks to be the same dry heat to set things up for the Final in the afternoon. EKN will have the Sunday report tomorrow evening after the day’s events are all wrapped up.
