This weekend will wrap up the United States Superkart Championship Eastern Division as the teams travel to the Texas Motorsport Ranch, just south of the Ft. Worth area. This will be the first time the series has traveled to the state of Texas and should bring out a good number of drivers. The USSC group will have almost six hours of track time throughout the weekend on the 1.7 mile, 11-turn course.
Friday will bring an early morning hour session to kick things off for on-track action with a half-hour session. The final session of the day will be an hour session for practice and qualifying at 5:00PM. Saturday will give the teams an early morning session hour warm-up for the afternoon Prefinal that will line them up for the Sunday Final scheduled for 11:30AM after another one hour warm-up session Sunday morning.
In the Formula E (FE) group, defending champion J.R. Osborne (P-1/Yamaha TZ) will look for his third victory of the year to wrap-up the Eastern Division championship. The Colorado resident has been the quickest driver throughout the season even though he has encountered problems during all three weekends. While Osborne will be dodging mechanical troubles, he will also have to dodge the competition as well. His two major threats of the weekend will be Johnny West (Stockman/Honda RS) and Derek Eastty (Nemesis/FPE). West is currently second in the standings and is looking to earn his first win of the year after finishing on the podium in all three events. Eastty will try to use the home track edge to his advantage as the Nemesis Superkarts shop is located in the Ft. Worth area. The Nemesis squad recently picked up a victory at the Ranch during a SouthWestern Roadracing Association event at the end of August. Eastty will also try to be the first driver to win a race in both divisions in the same year.

Reigning Intercontinental E (ICE) Andy Kiker (Anderson/Honda CR) currently leads the standings heading into the Ranch with victories in his last two races to his credit. Though Kiker has a solid lead over James Ingram (PVP/GasGas) in the standings, Kiker has had to battle at every event for the points lead. The New Jersey resident fought with Eastty during race one at Barber with mechanical trouble dropping him to third, a terrific battle with Ingram at Road America for his first win of the year, and then SKI GP 250 Project driver Marc Miller at the second race at Barber in July also gave him a tough fight. Like Eastty, Ingram’s home track is the Ranch, where he will try to earn his first victory of the year and look to gain ground on Kiker in the point standings.
One driver who will not be able to attend the weekend will be FE pilot Chris Taylor. Taylor’s son underwent surgery this week and is missing the Texas event to stay home with his family. He did confirm with EKN that he will gear up for the National Championship event at Road Atlanta in November. The staff at EKN would like to wish the young Taylor a speedy recovery and best wishes to the entire Taylor family.
EKN Web Manager David Cole will be on hand during the weekend to bring Trackside coverage each evening with full results and a full report of the day’s action. |
