Superkarts! USA Nations Cup Preview

Superkarts USA! will hold its inaugural Nations Cup this coming weekend at the challenging Grand Junction Motor Speedway. The young 9/10ths mile track is one of the smoothest and fastest in the country, with dramatic elevation changes and a technical array of corners, making it an ideal stage for a showdown for each class’s National #1 plate.

Action will start on Friday with a full day of open practice. Saturday will start the actual competition with qualifying and the first heat race and ends with a barbeque for all participants, sponsored by Alpine Band and GJMS’s Critical Zone Racing. Super Sunday will start with another heat race before the national champions are crowned in the feature events.

Not only will the winners receive priceless bragging rights and a flashy nameplate, they’ll also get more tangible rewards in the form of a “free ride” package for the Superkarts! SuperNationals IX on November 10-13. The prize includes one entry fee, two sets of MG tires, VP fuel, Maxima oil, two free pit spots, and two VIP passes.

The Nations Cup event will also host a charity auction with all proceeds benefiting the hurricane relief fund. The karting community has pulled together to donate for this needy cause. MG Tires has provided an all expenses paid trip for two to the Indy Car race in Homestead, FL next spring. Other items include helmets from Zamp Helmets, and kart gear from Critical Zone Racing and many others. Bill Elliott, whose son Chase will be racing during the weekend, as offered autographed toy cars for the auction as well. If you would like to help, please call 970-250-4663 or 970-254-1500. Items can be shipped after event because of the short notice

National attention will also be focused on the event as Superkarts! USA management team will be announcing a revised class structure this weekend, including the class structure for the upcoming SuperNationals IX. Many teams not in attendance will be making cell phone calls throughout the weekend for updates.

As this is a new event and the organization is finishing up a transitional year, the entry list is expected to feature mostly the Mountain Region competitors with some participation from the other Pro Tours, especially the Mojave Region’s ProKart Challenge and the Klein Tools Great Lakes Series. Competitors will battle in 12 different divisions ranging from ICC to Kid Karts.

ICC drivers will face off against several nationally ranked Coloradoans. Mile High’s Kyle Ray has had a fantastic run this year in the Colorado State Championship, but the home RBI team, lead by Alan Rudolph, A.J. Whisler, and Marc Elliot, will certainly be looking to add the #1 plate to their quickly expanding resume. Additional threats are expected from 411’s A.J. Noud and MSquared’s Eddie Olpin.

Kyle Ray will also be taking on the TaG class, along with his Colorado arch-rival, SAC’s Seth Chapa and the aforementioned Whisler from RBI. Utah’s Wyatt Lloyd should keep the locals honest after a strong showing in Steamboat last month.

The RBI locals are also hoping to dominate G1 with Jeffrey Rein and Steve Reed, but it won’t be easy. Top national pilots will be invading from California, including ProKart Challenge’s Tom Kutscher (who showed tremendous speed here back in April), PP Mastro, and Greg Smith.

Junior 80 should also see the homecoming of Coloradoans Levi Roberts and Alex Doman, who have focused on the national circuit this year. The CSC will be strongly represented by Mitch Cobb, Chris Waterman, and Dale Kistler-Collins.

Ekartingnews.com will be following the weekend’s action as it progresses in the forum thread in the General Discussion section along with a report following the event.
