Sievers reaction after the unveiling of his "pimped" ride

Eric Penz and the staff at EPIC Inc. worked day and night to finish up the “Pimp My Kart” project in order to make Saturday’s 4:00 pm unveiling on time. Penz arrived at the KMI Kart Expo in St. Charles, Illinois on Saturday afternoon after a non-stop drive from his Bogart, GA shop and although exhausted from the trek, he was able to put the finishing touches on the ‘pimped’ ride just in time. It was a last minute thrash-fest for the builder as final improvements were needed to finish everything off. Karting enthusiasts gathered at the Super Kart Illustrated booth as the posted time neared for the first look at winner Hank Sievers’ 2001 PTK.

As the cover was removed from the kart, the eyes of the onlookers grew large as flashbulbs bounced of the bright “Pimp My Kart Orange” ride. Quickly, a swarm of people gathered around the chassis as Sievers looked on in disbelief. “Oh my God!” was his initial comment. As he looked on, it finally sank into his mind what was happening. What had been an old beat-up PTK, had been officially “pimped.”

The color was the first thing everyone noticed as the cover was removed. The shade which was secretly mixed and sprayed by Jaguar Performance was a blinding sight as photos do not do justice to the color and brightness of the frame. The new chassis components supplied by Wild Kart and accessory gadgets from ProSpeed gave the kart a new life for competition. Bridgestone sticker tires, supplied by Margay Products, were mounted on the American-made Shockwave magnesium wheels.

What had been a tired CR-125 was freshened by Pops (Kindhart) Performance and exhaust system provided by Banke Racing Products will be tuned by using his new Alfano Data Acquisition system. The totally new Recaro seat will allow for a great feel of how the chassis handling along with a sleek look it brings to the kart.

Sievers was also presented with new safety apparel from Sparco with a customized suit that sported all the sponsoring companies. The DeCal Works graphic kit was pressed onto the newest line of Righetti Ridolfi bodywork supplied by Johns’ Kart Shop. Protecting Siever’s melon will be a Bell GSX with a custom paint job by Razor Image.

After the photos were shot, Sievers was still in disbelief. “I keep expecting you to tell me this is a joke,” he said as he surveyed the array of equipment he was taking home. The on-lookers spent the next hour looking over the pimped chassis. The overall consensus was that the Pimp My Kart team was going to need a little more time to go through the applications when we open the door for the second edition of the project next fall.

Look for a complete report on the project – in full color – in the May issue of Super Kart Illustrated.
