| Driver News: Cunningham Qualifies for Winter Cup Meeting |

New Zealand karter Mitch Cunningham has had a promising start to his 2005 European campaign by qualifying for the season-opening Winter Cup meeting at Lonato in Italy on Friday.
Cunningham, 18, in his second year as a full works driver for Italy's CRG team, set the 35th fastest time in qualifying on Friday afternoon, his best lap just 0.697 seconds of a lap slower than that of the fastest Formula A qualifier, Mark Litchfield (Birel) from Great Britain.
Qualifying was held in cold, damp conditions with the weather not expected to improve much over the weekend. Reigning World Karting Champion Davide Fore (who took over the mantle of World Karting Champion from Cunningham's older brother Wade) was eighth fastest.
