| Pimp My Kart – New Suppliers Added |
| |
Debuted on EKN back in early December and put into motion just after the start of the new year, the inaugural Pimp My Kart program is now rolling on towards the February 25 unveiling of our winner’s ride at the Kart Expo in Chicago, IL. The partnership between kart component innovator EPIC Inc. and media outlets Ekartingnews and Super Kart Illustrated has been a lucky pairing for Homer Glen, IL’s Hank Sievers, the first winner of the PMK package. Sievers’ 2001 Paul Tracy Karting 125cc chassis is now in the capable hands of EPIC’s Erik Penz and the teardown has been completed. Individual parts have been shipped to their rebuild sites as the ‘pimping’ has begun.
The PMK team is continuing in development of the list of manufacturers who will be part of the program. The file of partners for this debut program is long and began with the enthusiasm of EPIC Inc. and Jaguar Performance, who will handle the initial prep of the chassis. The addition of a data acquisition system with an integral steering wheel from Alfano, graphics from DeCal Works, a new GTX Pro Series helmet from Bell Racing and driving gear courtesy of Sparco were announced in mid-December. With the chassis now off to Jaguar for stripping and powdercoat, it’s time to introduce a couple of additional partners to the package. We’ll present a few more over the next weeks as we close on the debut of the finished product in Chicago.
New to the program is Pop’s Performance Engines and chief builder Pops Kindhart, the father of noted Masters 125cc and road racer John Kindhart. Pops has already taken delivery of Hank’s Honda CR125 and will go through the mill to bring it up to national specs. When this build is finished, Sievers will be enjoying some serious HP.
Margay Racing Products (www.margay.com) has stepped up as well as the operation has jumped into the PMK program to outfit the PTK with a new set of Bridgestone rubber.
Our man Erik Penz has been on a trek to Europe through the month of January, attending the Autosport International while at the same time adding a little Euro flair to the component list. Penz has confirmed that our PTK will receive a brand new to the industry with the addition of a new Recaro M75 kart seat (www.recaro-kart.de).
As always, glimpses into the first Pimp My Kart build can be found at the EPIC Inc. website – http://www.erikpenz.com. Stay tuned to EKN for the announcement of additional Pimp My Kart partners! |
