Qualifying is in the books here at Orlando and the ICC session was a wild one with Darren Elliott, last year’s Stars’ Finale winner, running the fastest official time of the weekend in his Maxter-powered CRG. The shifter karting icon will not be starting this afternoon’s Prefinal from the pole however, as he did not come to the event with the necessary three series races on his record, and as a result, he will start tenth. This year, Stars’ officials changed the finale eligibility rules to encourage full series participation. Any driver who participated in fewer than three events could start no better than tenth – thus Elliott’s tenth place.

Finding speed after struggling recently was Bobby Wilson, the defending Stars’ ICC champion, who put his Hi-Tech Pavesi-powered First Kart on the pole after posting the second quickest time of the ICC session. Kyle Wiegand (GP) qualified third after briefly topping the time sheets and after Elliott’s move to tenth, he will start alongside Wilson on the front row for this afternoon’s Prefinal. ICA polesitter Jordy Vorrath (Italkart) will line up third with Wesley Boswell (Birel) in fourth.

ICA championship hopeful Vorrath laid down his fast lap early in the “B” session and then headed for the pits. Vorrath, after struggling yesterday in practice, came on strong today and strengthened his bid for the title. Joel Miller (Birel) was second on the chart while title contender Johnny Johnson (Biesse) was third. New York driver Michael Giessen is Vorrath’s primary challenger for the series crown but the Birel driver dug himself a hole by qualifying back in 12th.

The Prefinals are up next here at the Grumpy Lot and we’ll be back this afternoon with the heat race results.
