| Top Kart, Razor and CKI Win 2012 WKA Chassis Manufacturer Trophy |
| Article by: WKA PitBoard |
Top Kart, Razor and Competition Karting Inc. are the 2012 Chassis Manufacturer champions in WKA's three national series.
Top Kart won a tiebreaker with Arrow in the Mazda / Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series. Razor won its second straight championships in the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series. And CKI earned another championship in the VEGA / TS Racing Road Racing Series.
Manufacturers Cup
In a dramatic close to the 2012 Man Cup Series at New Castle (Ind.) Motorsports Park in September, Top Kart ended the year tied with Arrow at 24 feature wins apiece. Top Kart won the tiebreaker because Top Karts had more second-place feature finishes than Arrows.
Top Kart, which is imported by the Bethlehem, Pa.-based Grand Products Inc., entered New Castle four wins ahead of Arrow and the clear favorite its first Man Cup chassis title.
But Arrow rallied at New Castle, posting six wins at the Indiana track to Top Kart's two. The finish was one of the most exciting in the history of the WKA Chassis Manufacturer championship race and had many racers and team members of all chassis brands abuzz throughout the McLaughlin Motorsports Grand Nationals.
Houston, Texas' Mason Chelootz won the most races for Top Kart. Chelootz wheeled his blue No. 00 mounts to 12 feature wins and three national championshpis. Other Top Kart final winners were Scott Ferris (six), Chris Wehrheim (two), John Ferris III (two) and Garrett Johnston and John Dixon, who each won once.
Birel, which had won the Man Cup Chassis title from 2008 to 2011, settled for a tie with Haase for third. Birel and Haase each had 16 final victories. Merlin rounded out the top five with 14 triumphs.
Twelve different chassis makes won a Man Cup main event in 2012.
Gold Cup
Razor won its second straight manufacturer title on the Gold Cup tour. Razor, based in the Atlanta area and built by Steve and Stacy Roberts' Roberts Kart Shop, earned 35 wins and bested Coyote by a 12-win margin in the five-race national series.
Arrow was third in the Gold Cup with 18 wins. Bandit, which hasn't built chassis in several years, still won 17 mains for fourth place. The Concord, N.C.-based MGM earned 15 Gold Cup wins for fifth.
Fourteen different chassis makes won a Gold Cup feature in 2012.
Road Racing
CKI continued its dominance on the WKA VEGA / TS Racing National Road Racing trail. The Welcome, N.C., based company, which also is a household name in dirt-oval-track kart chassis, captured 58 wins on its way to the championship. This year marked CKI's seventh straight National Road Racing Manufacturer championship.
The next highest win total belonged to TS Racing and Coyote, which each scored 16 wins. Margay and Elite each had 14 wins.
Over 30 different chassis won at least one WKA Road Racing feature in 2012.
