2013 WKA Road Racing Changes Announced
Article by: WKA PitBoard

As the December 27-30 Daytona Championships nears for the WKA VEGA / TS Racing National Road Racing Series driven by Mazda, competitors in the TaG, Clone, 100cc Controlled, Yamaha Sportsman and Junior Enduro classes should take note of some changes for the upcoming season.

These changes will be reflected in the 2013 WKA Tech Manual, which is set to go to print this week.

TaG

In the TaG ranks, the Spec 125 TaG class has been dropped and replaced with TaG Heavy.

Spec 125 TaG, which has allowed laydown-style sprint seats and butterfly steering wheels, among other general TaG rule edits, was once a thriving division until the addition of TaG a few years ago. Since then, fewer competitors have supported Spec 125 TaG while TaG entry counts have stayed fairly consistent.

TaG Heavy will run the same rules as TaG except minimum weights will be 10 pounds greater for each legal engine.

The addition of TaG Heavy was prompted by conversation throughout the last couple months with current TaG and Spec TaG Road Racing competitors.

Clone

Four senior Clone classes have been offered as "local options" for the last couple years. In 2013, these classes will be national divisions. These classes are Clone 335, Clone 360, Clone 385 and Clone 410.

100cc Controlled

The 100cc Controlled class will now run both days for a single championship. The class has been offered on Saturday only with competitors forced to run Formula 100 or 100cc Controlled Spec on Sunday. In 2013, 100cc Controlled competitors will have the option to run the same class / setup each day of competition.

Yamaha Sportsman / Junior Enduro

The Yamaha Sportsman Lite, Medium and Heavy class's minimum age has been decreased from 16 to 15. Now, Junior Enduro competitors will have the option to move to the senior ranks a year earlier. This falls in line with the Yamaha Sportsman Sprint class, which has allowed 15 year olds to compete.

These changes will go into effect at Daytona.

The Daytona Championships entry blank will be available soon.
