| Daytona Dirt World Championships to Serve as 2013 Tri-State Series Opener |

Following months of meetings and discussion, the World Karting Association and the Dyno Cams Tri-State Pro Series jointly announce that the December 28-30 WKA Daytona Dirt World Championships will serve as the 2013 season opener for the Tri-State Pro Series.
The announcement was made Saturday afternoon at Carolina 120 Speedway, where the Tri-State Series was running its season closer. WKA officials made the trip to Carolina Saturday to iron out details of the partnership with Tri-State's Troy Duncan. An agreement was reached and series announcer Phil Combs made the announcement over the public address system.
While the complete class structure for the event has not yet been determined, racers can plan on some of the largest cash purses of the year this December at Daytona. Several big pro races are being planned and other classes will offer traditional WKA trophies, product awards and cash purses or a combination of all.
"We believe this is a great move for WKA, Tri-State and dirt-oval karting on the east coast," WKA's Van Gilder stated. "Daytona provides us with a fantastic track to run on, and we want as many dirt teams and drivers as possible to experience what hundreds of racers have already enjoyed over the last few years. I think with the Tri-State partnership you'll see a terrific turnout of dirt racers at Daytona and some of the best competition of the year. We're really looking forward to the event."
Tri-State's Troy Duncan echoed Gilder's thoughts on the new partnership.
"I've been excited about this for some time now, and I'm just happy it's been released so everyone can start making their plans to be at Daytona this December. It should be a great event and we're all working hard to make it a memorable show for everyone involved," Duncan said.
The event will be held at the popular quarter-mile Daytona Flat Track, located outside turns one and two of the DIS superspeedway. This will mark the fourth year WKA has promoted the Dirt World Championships at the DIS Flat Track. The previous three years' entry count has averaged around 350, and WKA officials are expecting well over double that amount this December with the new partnership with the Tri-State Pro Series.
The tentative schedule includes the Daytona pit area opening for parking Thursday afternoon, Dec. 27. Practice will run Friday, Dec. 28. Racing will begin Saturday, Dec. 29 and will include some of the biggest pro classes running Saturday night, under the Daytona lights. The last day of racing is Sunday, Dec. 30 and may go into Sunday night, depending on the schedule.

WKA, Rockingham Speedway partner to return kart racing to "The Rock"
World Karting Association officials engaged in a successful meeting last week with Andy Hillenburg of Rockingham Speedway in an effort to bring kart racing back to the North Carolina venue.
WKA is pleased to announce the meeting with Hillenburg went very well and at least one national-level karting event will return to Rockingham in 2013.
Plans also are in place to build divisional karting programs at Rockingham in 2013.
Rockingham boasts a number of tracks suitable for karting, including the infield sprint course that once hosted popular WKA Gold Cup Series nationals, the road course that utilizes the one-mile tri-oval that has hosted WKA Road Racing nationals in the past, and the new half-mile "Little Rock," a Martinsville Speedway replica that has a quarter-mile oval inside it that could host Speedway Pavement-style kart events.
Rockingham last hosted a WKA Gold Cup national in 2004. The last Road Racing national at The Rock was held in 1989.
Hillenburg purchased the track in October 2007 and has worked to revive it since. Series that have raced at The Rock since Hillenburg became owner include ARCA, UARA-STARS late models, NASCAR K&N East and, this past April, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
WKA and Hillenburg share the excitement of bringing karting back to Rockingham. Further 2013 scheduling announcements will be released soon. |
