EKN Constructors Championship - October 3, 2012

The latest total in the eKartingNews.com Constructors Championship has been tabulated, and now released. A busy September month saw four events added to the total of all brands finishing inside the top-five in the Senior, Master, and Junior categories at the Rock Island Grand Prix, WKA Manufacturers Cup Series at New Castle, Streets of Lancaster Grand Prix, and Rotax Pan American Challenge Championship event. With the new results, the Tony Kart brand now leads the standings as they jump over CRG, heading into the final event to be counted for the 2012 program - the SKUSA SuperNationals XVI on November 18.

Looking at the events one-by-one, Birel scored the highest total at the Rock Island Grand Prix. Thanks to a solid contingent from the Texas-based 3G Kart Racing operation and other privateers, Birel scored an event-high 33 points to out score the popular American-made Margay and Coyote brands. Birel - thanks to MRP Motorsport and MKP - tied with the Arrow brand, represented by KartSport North America, for the top point total at the McLaughlin Motorsports Grand Nationals in New Castle. They tied at 35 points with Tony Kart and Top Kart matching each other for third place at 34 points. Those four brands took home over 75% of the points scored on the weekend, showing just how close the action was at the Manufacturers Cup Series finale. CRG bounced back for its only point score of the month, leading all brands at the Streets of Lancaster GP. Their 26 points outmatched Tony Kart and the Energy brands. Only the Senior Max and Junior Max categories qualified for the EKN CC standings at the Rotax Pan American event. Wins by Ashley Rogero (Tony Kart) and Phil DeLaO - Top Kart driver testing a Sodikart in preparation for the Rotax Grand Finals - gave those respective brands the top score with Birel, Kosmic and Praga locking up for third with 16 points.

Overall, Tony Kart scored top-three in the last three events to move ahead of former leader CRG. Tony Kart was third highest at WKA event, second in Lancaster and first at the Pan Am. CRG scored just one point at Rock Island, but came back with the high total in Lancaster. The lack of points in New Castle and Colorado dropped them down to second, now trailing Tony Kart by 39 points heading into Vegas. After scoring zero points in the final three events of 2011, Arrow has put together 22 straight events of scoring points toward the EKN CC standings. Of the last four events, the WKA finale was its best at 35 points on the weekend. Birel, scoring the best score at Rock Island and New Castle, jumped back into the top-five to sit fourth. The position will go down to the wire with Top Kart holding fifth, just six markers behind while Kosmic drops to sixth, only 18 away from Birel. Intrepid remains seventh, Merlin eighth, GP ninth and Parolin tenth.

All that remains is the SKUSA SuperNationals XVI at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on November 18. SuperSunday will offer up a total of 420 points up for grabs to any brand finishing in the top-five in seven categories. Both Tony Kart and CRG will have solid driver rosters in all categories, including international drivers. Pilots from Ocala Gran Prix, 2Wild Karting, PSL Karting, CRG-USA, Aluminos and other operations will decide the final standings of the 2012 eKartingNews.com Constructors Championship.

The EKN Constructors Championship calculation process includes the top-five finishers in each recognized class (Senior-Master-Junior classes). The SKUSA Pro Tour, US Rotax Grand Nationals, and Pan American Challenge will earn points with the following structure; 1st=20 points, 2nd=16 points, 3rd=12 points, 4th=8 points, 5th=4 points. The remaining events will continue to be awarded with the previous ranking system; with first place earning five (5) points down to fifth place earning one (1) point for each category.
