Lasoski Speedway located right next to the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Warrensburg, Missouri, was the site for the Annual Unlimited All-Stars Muscle Kart Grand Nationals on September 14, 15 and 16. The immaculately prepared 1/5 mile high banked, clay oval was the perfect venue to determine the 2012 UAS Muscle Kart National Champion and showcase the highest level of speedway kart racing to the world.

Muscle kart racers from all over the USA had been competing for one-half of their national ranking points in their respective regions since the season opening event at Daytona Motor Speedway during the last week of December, when the UAS was the guest of the World Karting Association. Going into the event six drivers shared the lead in national points. Those drivers were; Robby Yow who is a two-time national champion. The 21 year old driver is from Greenboro, North Carolina. John Decker, the 20 year old 2011 defending champion is from Powhatan, Virginia. Jim Klaiber is from Coal Grove, Ohio and is 39. Wayne Felch, the eldest driver of the top contenders, 44, is from Portland, Oregon. Felch shook up the UAS with his radical new kart design. Ben Gallup, the 27 year old winner of the 2011 Grand Nationals at Amelia Motor Raceway in Virginia, is from Lake Pleasant, New York. Chris Buller, is a 30 year old driver from Henderson, Nebraska. He is the winner of multiple high profile events. Ironically, no driver leading in UAS national points going into the Grand Nationals has ever won that event or the national title there. Yow secured his titles under a different point system. The 2012 championship race was no exception to that trend.

History did repeats itself, and one of the rest of the top 16 ranked drivers became the 2012 National Champion. Those drivers were close and tied for 2nd and 3rd positions leading into the season ending Grand National; Robbie Sarchet - Elida, Ohio, Victor Peters - Spring Hill, Florida, Justin Westerfeld - Guilford, Indiana, Michael Nicosia - Port Richey, Florida, Brad Long - Dunlap, Tennessee, Ronnie Cox - Bothel, Washington, Eric Stansberry - Battle Ground, Washington, Shay Chaveous - Waynesboro, Georgia - Pete Decker, Powhatan, Virgina, and Cruz Vandall - South Charleston, West Virginia.

Fifty-four of the best muscle kart drivers from every part of the continental USA competed for the 20 A-Main starting spots. In that race Robby Yow lead going into the final laps in an exciting battle with Chris Buller. Not far behind the pair was a very fast Robby Sarchet. Just after taking the white flag for the final lap, Buller’s kart made contact with Yow’s causing him to spin off of the back straight into the infield. Buller motored on to the checkered flag with Sarchet not far behind. After the race, Buller was disqualified for rough driving and Sarchet was declared the winner.

The UAS is a single class, where unique proto-type race karts, powered by every type of engine imaginable up to 500 cc four strokes, 250 cc two-strokes and 300 cc Wankels, all race heads up. The UAS utilizes a unique weight formula performance equalizing system that has proven to level the playing field but inspire racers to constantly improve.

The UAS portion of the program consisted of Friday evening practice. Racers will got an early morning start Saturday morning with practice starting at 8:30. Time trials started at noon, followed by the fast dash for the 6 quickest that determined the top 6 A-main starting positions. That was followed by six heat races with eight cars in each, then the D-Main, C-Main, B-Main and finally the 20 lap A-Main. Eight other local classes were slated to fill out the program with a heat and feature race. Those classes were; Rookie, Jr. Amateur, Super Heavy, Medium, Jr. 1, Sumo, Jr. 2 and Heavy.

The 2013 Unlimited All-Stars muscle Kart Grand Nationals will take place once again at Lasoski Speedway on September 13, 14 and the 15th is the rain date for the activities.
