| US Rotax Max Challenge Series Profile: Powerade Karting Championship |
| |
In cooperation with MAXSpeed Group, the administrator of the United States Rotax Max Challenge program, eKartingNews.com is happy to introduce the ‘US Rotax Max Challenge Series Profile’. Each month, EKN will profile one of the many Rotax series in the United States. Included in these regular overviews will be where each series races, who is racing there, and how you can become part of their program. Each US Rotax Max Challenge Series is a qualifying program toward the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Nationals.
The Carolina states are well known for motorsports, especially oval racing when referring to the sprint kart. Charlotte hosted a number of major international and national sprint karting events inside the CMS facility in Concord, the site of the World Karting Association headquarters. Sprint karting has never had a solid home for club racing in the Carolina’s until three years ago when the Carolina Motorsports Park in South Carolina broke ground for their own kart track - the first in the state. Now, the Powerade Karting Championship is among the growing United States Rotax Max Challenge programs in the country.
The Powerade Karting Championship has hosted approximately 65 US Rotax Max Challenge racers during the 2012 season, and continues to grow in its third season as an official series. The series hosts all seven Rotax categories in addition to World Karting Association and local option classes. The 7/10-mile course on the grounds of the Carolina Motorsports Park is multi-directional course with multiple configurations. An on-site kart shop opened along with the race course as the facility became a Birel Racing Karts and Rotax Kart Engines dealer.
Ten races make up the 2012 season for the Powerade Karting Championship, one race each month starting in February until December with the month of July off. The best eight races at the end of the year will decide who will be crowned champions for 2012. Eddie Gliss is the current championship leader in the Senior Max category. Masters Max has Zachary Weiss leading championship, holding three victories on the year. Junior Max is the largest category of the series with Brenden Johnson at the top of the standings, sweeping the season thus far. Mitch Goldfarb is also perfect on the year in Mini Max to lead the championship while Pauly Massimino is on top in Micro Max.
Eight drivers from the Powerade Karting Championship visited the Michiana Raceway Park in South Bend, Indiana for the Grand Nationals. Brenden Johnson was the drop driver from the Powerade series in Junior Max, placing 16th, while Connor Jevens fought strong but did not qualify for the main event. Mitch Goldfarb was one of two drivers from the series earn a top-10 finish. He placed eighth in Mini Max, while Bradley Zilisch come up one spot short in 11th.
