Team USA Receives Continued Support from K1 RaceGear for 2012 Finals Event

The Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, referred to by many as the “Olympics of Karting” with its highly talented competitors who come to the event, representing numerous countries from all over the world is set to take place November 28th to December 1st at the Kartodromo Internacional Algarve, close to the city of Portimao in Portugal. For a second consecutive year, Team USA will be equipped for the challenge with full safety gear, designed and provided by K1 RaceGear in Carlsbad, California.

“We are very proud to continue our sponsorship of Team USA for this highly anticipated Karting event,” said K1 RaceGear's, Richard Zimmermann. “Right now there are nineteen confirmed drivers for Team USA and a couple more may be added. K1 RaceGear will again provide each driver with two suits, one for practice and one for the race itself, custom Team USA gloves and a pair of our new K1 RaceGear Pilot driving shoes.”

Zimmermann explained that the newly designed K1 RaceGear Pilot driving shoe includes all the same safety features as many of their other lines of driving shoes with some new styling and more comfort in mind for the driver. “It’s really more for when you are in the kart and driving,” he said. “It gives the driver a much better feel for the pedals, which is extremely important in this type of racing.”

Both the practice and race suits that Team USA will wear for the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals are all custom designed specifically for the team by K1 RaceGear, with the highest safety standards applied and are level 2 CIK/FIA approved.

K1 RaceGear takes pride in understanding the distinct needs of drivers in each form of motorsports and they blend those characteristics into each suit they manufacture. “A karting event, for example, is shorter by auto racing standards, but they are in the kart for about twenty minutes for each race,” Zimmermann explained. “However, because of the g-forces and the unique physical demands and exertion that they need to apply as they are competing where they are pulling three-four G’s, both lateral and longitude in their braking and turning, it takes quite a bit of physical effort. The suits have to be light, cool and flexible yet protective.”
