| Dates Set for 2012 WKA Daytona KartWeek |
| Article by: WKA PitBoard |
2012 WKA Daytona KartWeek dates are set for the traditional December 27-30 at Daytona Int'l Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.
This year's KartWeek dates fall on a Thursday through Sunday.
The 2012 version of Daytona KartWeek will feature the tripleheader lineup of Speedway Dirt on the quarter-mile Flat Track, Mazda / Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup on the infield Sprint Course and Vega / TS Racing National Road Racing on the DIS superspeedway road course.
Meetings with DIS management over the coming weeks will determine the day-to-day schedule for 2012 Daytona KartWeek. Traditionally - for Road Racing and Manufacturers Cup - Dec. 27 is parking day, Dec. 28 is practice and the 29th and 30th are full days of racing.
The daily schedule at the Flat Track has varied in recent years.
Special lodging rates at beachside and trackside hotels will be released via WKA's Pit Board soon.
Speedway Pavement Grand Nationals this weekend at Chapel Hill
The only national event of the 2012 WKA Vega Speedway Pavement Series season is this weekend at New York's Chapel Hill Raceway.
The Chapel Hill Grand Nationals will go off this Friday through Sunday at the tight bullring oval in the scenic land of southwest New York.
A special Champ Heavy Money Race for Animal-powered champ-karts will kick off the racing action Friday evening. The Charlie Hodge / Joe Moore Memorial boasts a guaranteed purse of $1300 and pays a cool $500 to the winner. Second-place will take home $300 and $250 will go to third, $150 to fourth and $100 to fifth.
The Money Race will be held after a full day of Friday practice, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Saturday's racing features practice, qualifying and main events for 11 Briggs Animal-powered divisions, plus a Senior Champ Mixed engine class (Animal, Flathead and Clones) and Kid Kart participants.
Sunday's racing is reserved for the traditional Briggs Raptor (flathead) engines. Eleven classes with karts powered by flathead engines will take the green, along with the Sunday version of Senior Champ Mixed and Kid Karts.
The track is open Thursday at noon for pit pass sales and parking. Pre-entry pickup and pre-tech will run from 4 to 6 p.m.
Gates open Friday through Sunday at 7 a.m.
