David Malukas raced to his fourth World Karting Association Manufacturers Cup Series final win this past weekend at Concept Haulers Motor Speedway near Norway, Illinois, where round five of the 2012 national circuit took center stage on the challenging three-quarter-mile sprint course.

Racing in the five Junior Sportsman divisions, Malukas wheeled his HMD Trucking / MKP No. 79 Birel to one final win, three top-fives and one Pole Award between Saturday and Sunday's action.

Malukas's win and Pole Award came in Sunday's Cadet Sportsman Final 2. The feature triumph marked his third win of the season in the ultra-competitive Cadet division, which was flanked by solid fourth-place finishes in Saturday's Komet Sportsman and Sunday's Yamaha Sportsman 2.

The 10-year-old racer took time to talk about round five of the WKA Man Cup while on his way east to Michiana Raceway Park for the prestigious Rotax Grand Nationals.

"I'm very happy to win at Norway since the track is so close to home," said David, who resides in nearby Chicago Ridge. "The Sunday Cadet race was very close with Brandon Lemke. We raced very hard together and I was able to come out on top. I'm not sure where we stand in the points, but to win three races in Cadet this season has to put us near the top. Hopefully we can have a good run at New Castle and have a chance to win a championship."

Aided by the top-notch tuning of Jason Birdsell, coaching of Wes Phillips and support of the Motorama Kart Parts group, Malukas has now won at least one main event in the last three Manufacturers Cup outings, dating back to round three of the series in May at Pittsburgh Int'l Race Complex.

Entering the Norway round, David sat third in Cadet and Yamaha Sportsman 2 points, fourth in Yamaha Sportsman 1 and sixth in Komet Sportsman. Point standings, once calculated through Norway round five, should show David in solid contention with a shot at one or more national titles heading into the sixth and final round at New Castle, Indiana in September.

"I'm not sure how the points are right now," David admitted. "We try to win every race we can and not pay a lot of attention to the points. I think we should be close in at least one or two divisions. Racing against some great drivers makes it very tough to win the points. We've won races but had some bad runs too, but I think everyone has pretty much had that. I'm looking forward to New Castle, and however it turns out I have to thank my dad, Jason, Wes and everyone at MKP for the great year we've had."

Before focusing on the conclusion of the WKA season, Malukas has his hands full over the next several days at MRP, where he'll compete in the Rotax Mini Max class. Malukas finished third in the Mini Max final at the Rotax Shootout at MRP in late June, and should be in contention for a Grand Nationals final triumph this weekend.

David Malukas is a 10-year-old national sprint go-kart racer from Chicago, Illinois. Malukas is a four-time feature winner and multi-time top-five finisher in Jr Sportsman divisions in national World Karting Association competition and a feature winner in WKA Great Lakes and Route 66 sprint regional series. Malukas rides No. 79 MKP Birels. For more information on David, visit DavidMalukas.com or visit his Facebook page
