The WKA Vega / TS Racing Road Racing Series driven by Mazda renews its 2012 season this weekend at the famed VIRginia International Raceway for the Woodbridge Kart Club-hosted VIR Nationals.
Round five of the 2012 national tour marks the first of two WKC-promoted nationals of the summer. A return to the popular Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia concludes the WKC swing Sept. 7-9.
This weekend's national event will be held on the 3.27-mile VIR Full Course for the first time ever.
Over 40 national divisions plus a number of local-option classes are on tap this weekend. One of those local options is the much-anticipated Yamaha Sportsman Special after Friday's practice. The 40-minute race, which pays $300 to the winner, invites laydown-enduros and sprint-enduros with Yamaha Sportsman pipe setup to vie for the top prize.
Gates swing open Friday at 7 a.m. with official practice slated to go off at 8. The local-option races will begin around 4 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday feature full days of racing after morning practices.
Vega tires legal for flat-karts at Chapel Hill
Following up the Pit Board announcement regarding Speedway Pavement Grand National tire rules - released July 19 - Vega tires are legal for flat-kart divisions at the Chapel Hill Aug. 10-12.
The original Pit Board stated that Firestones were legal in flat-kart divisions and Vega in champ-kart classes. However, King George Speedway, a recognized WKA Speedway Pavement divisional program in 2012, allowed flat-kart divisions to run Vegas.
All flat-kart divisions are permitted to run Vega, Firestone or Burris at Chapel Hill. |
