Team News: Leading Edge Motorsports Sets Course for SKUSA SummerNationals

Greg Bell and the Leading Edge Motorsports operation will travel this weekend (July 20-22) to the Miller Motorsports Park for the third running of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SummerNationals. After a couple months of racing at the regional level and preparing for the upcoming United States Rotax Max Challenge Grand Nationals, the LEM squad returns to the SKUSA Pro Tour with eyes on victories at the Tooele, Utah facility. While wins eluded the team at the SKUSA SpringNationals back in April, Bell and the drivers are primed to leave the SummerNationals with victories in hand.

One driver that came close to winning at the SpringNationals was TaG Masters pilot Randy Froom. Battling back from a challenging opening day of action, Froom soared to the top of the time charts for qualifying on Sunday. Some rough racing pushed him back in the heat races but he came through in the feature to end up second with the fast lap honors aboard his LEM Intrepid with Leading Edge Power-Parilla Leopard. Froom enters the weekend fourth in the title chase with sites on moving closer to the top. Fellow NorCal driver Paul Hohlbein will be joining Froom, making his 2012 Pro Tour debut, aboard a LEM Intrepid with Leading Edge Power Parilla Leopard.

Trevor McAlister is entering the SummerNationals on a winning streak. The native-Texan saw a chance at victory at the SpringNationals taken away after getting pushed off the track by another competitor while leading. Since then, ‘T-Mac’ has been on the charge and clicked off two feature wins at the California ProKart Challenge in preparation for the SummerNationals. Not yet out of the title chase, two visits to the podium in Utah aboard his LEM Praga chassis could put his name back into the championship battle.

Leading Edge Motorsports will field two drivers in the competitive TaG Senior category. Jess Peterson contested the SpringNationals but was unable to come away with positive results. Moving to the Praga chassis brand recently, Peterson has shown improvements in the last few regional events. Familiar with the MMP facility, Peterson could find himself among the contenders list this weekend. Kathryn Cornell will be making her 2012 Pro Tour debut this weekend at the SummerNationals. Cornell was impressive in her rookie season one year ago, showing the speed to challenge for podium finishes. She will look to return with that same speed aboard a LEM Intrepid.

Mexican Mariana Ramirez will return to the USA and continue her campaign in the S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto division. Aboard her LEM Intrepid with Leading Edge Power, Ramirez will look to improve on her seventh place finish at the SpringNationals. Taylor Jacobs is another driver making his Pro Tour debut. Jacobs is a new driver to the Leading Edge Motorsports roster and taking in the guidance from Greg Bell and the entire staff. Taylor will contest the very competitive TaG Junior division aboard a LEM Intrepid with Leading Edge Power-Parilla Leopard.
