Series News: Red Line Oil Karting Championship - Round Five Update

Race five of the Red Line Oil Karting Championships will mark the mid-summer point of the karting season at the Simraceway Kart Track at Sonoma Raceway this coming Sunday with another full card of some exciting racing. To continue the great growth of the fields at the RLOKC, three races will be featured with larger prize money. The GoPro feature race will be the 80 Masters along with extra prize money going to the top three drivers in the race. Joining the 80 Masters with extra prize money will be the Senior and IAME Spec TaG classes. The top three in these three classes will receive $150 to win, $100 for 2nd and $50 for 3rd. In addition, all winners of classes with 8 or more drivers will get a $100 cash back bonus.

The 2012 season has turned into one of the most competitive seasons with most classes not having any repeat winners. The main reason for the multiple winners has been the increase in the field sizes over 2011, especially in Rotax Masters, Junior Rotax and the 125 Honda shifter classes. The Senior Rotax class has seen very competitive fields in which five to six drivers have been in the hunt for the win each race.

We will be adding two new officials at this event, Jeff Manges as Tech Director and Don Maloney as Race Steward. More details of this exciting announcement are available in the "Race Director notes".

Practice and Pre-Registration will be from 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday. Practice is $50 for the day and all karts are welcome to run practice as long as the drivers are experienced and driving karts that meet current safety standards. All registration will be at the Old Jim Russell Admin building (to the right of the Sonoma Raceway Main Gate, behind the large wall). There will be a drag race event held this weekend, so you may want to get in earlier to allow for additional time due to race traffic. Registration will open on Saturday at 8:00am and at 7:00am on Sunday. Sunday Race day starts practice at 8:10am with racing beginning about 11:00am. Race Entry fee is $100, $10 for transponder rental, $10 for each additional pit pass, $5 for kids under 12. Rotax membership is required for all National Rotax classes; cost is $45 and can be done at Registration. A one race waiver of Rotax membership is given to all first time racers to the Rotax classes.
