Heading to the final round of the Florida Karting Championship Series (FKCS), the duo of Alex and Mikey Hornborg were looking to end the series strong. With the event taking place at the ultra fast 103rd Street Motorsports Complex, Mikey would claim a solid fourth place result in Rotax Mini Max, while Alex would take the top spot in Rotax Junior before being penalized and stripped of the win.

"It was a good weekend in Jacksonville," expressed Alex. "For the most part, the rain stayed away and we were able to show our true speed."

After competing in the TaG Junior class on Saturday and coming home with a 13th place result, Alex would run at the front of the field in Sunday's Rotax Junior category. Qualifying in the fourth position and holding station through the heat race, Alex would challenge for the main event victory after moving to the second position at the drop of the green flag.

Stalking his nearest competitor for most of the race, Alex took the point on multiple occasions only to lose it on the final circuit. Utilizing the draft to try and sling shot by the leader, Alex failed in his attempt but managed to put himself in position for a last corner pass. Going deep on the brakes with a bold move, Hornborg slid past his competition and drove to the checkers. Though Alex was the first driver to cross the stripe, a start line infraction penalty of three seconds would strip him of the win and eventually classify him in the fourth position.

Alex continued, "I am disappointed in the penalty but there is nothing I can do about it. With different starting procedures in all different series, it seems that more and more penalties are given out each race weekend."

With Alex showing his speed throughout the race weekend, Mikey did the same on Saturday in the Rotax Mini Max division. Progressing through Friday's practice day and learning the characteristics of the Jacksonville, Florida facility, Mikey was ready for what eventually would be his best run of the year.

Qualifying in the eighth position and maintaining the position through the heat race, Mikey would move forward in the main event. Picking up a few places on the start, the younger of the two Hornborgs would battle to claim a sixth place position. Taking advantage of some post race penalties, Mikey would advance forward two more positions and be classified with a fourth place result.

Both Alex and Mikey would like to thank Ocala Gran Prix, tuners Tony Loniewski, John Russell and Marty Neri as well as all of the OGP staff for their continued support and coaching efforts.

With one weekend off, the Hornborg duo will return to Ocala Gran Prix for the finale round in the North Florida Rotax Max Challenge program July 6-7. With championships on the line and the final tune-up before the United States Rotax Grand Nationals, Alex and Mikey will look to continue their momentum.
