Since making the switch to the Ocala Gran Prix (OGP) race team, Aaron Bass has shown the strength and speed to compete with some of the country's best drivers. This past weekend, the British-born Floridian continued his improvement as he scored a fourth place result at the final round of the Florida Karting Championship Series (FKCS) at the 103rd Street Motorsports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida and will now set his sights on becoming a national champion in August.

Competing in the Rotax Mini Max class and working with tuner Brian Fletcher, Bass started his weekend off on Thursday afternoon with pre-event testing. Continuing to decrease lap times and increase speed, Bass was excited heading into qualifying and wheel-to-wheel competition on Saturday.

"I really like this track and I am working well with my tuner and the rest of the team," explained Bass. "The big thing at this track is the 1000 foot straightaway and how fast you get down that. We worked hard on both practice days to get turbo early and have a chance to score the race win."

Starting out on Saturday morning, Bass would turn the fifth quickest circuit to line up inside row three for the start of the prefinal. Looking to get a jump on the opening lap of the heat race, Bass was aggressive throughout the first complex of corners but would quickly fall out of position and end up outside the top ten. Utilizing the draft and working hard to get back to the front of the field, Ocala Gran Prix's newest driver quickly improved his position to cross the stripe in fifth, all while turning lap times that would be competitive with the leaders.

Looking to improve a little more in the main event, Bass and his tuner would make minor changes before the final in the hopes of improving and to have a shot at the race win. Just as he did in the prefinal, Bass made quick and aggressive moves in the opening lap and managed to stay out of trouble as he ran inside the top five. Challenging for positions on multiple occasions, Bass would have to settle for the fourth position when the checkered flag flew. While gaining experience and working hard to run at the front of the field, Bass passed more karts than any other Rotax Mini Max driver during official on track sessions.

Bass will enjoy one weekend off before traveling back to the Ocala Gran Prix facility for the final round of the North Florida Rotax Max Challenge. As the final tune-up before the United States Rotax Grand Nationals, Bass will look to carry the momentum into Ocala and onwards throughout the rest of the 2012 racing season.

With only a few more events in the Rotax Mini Max division, young Aaron will get behind the wheel of a full sized kart for the very first time next week as he begins to test for his Rotax Junior debut later this season.
