10 North American Drivers Show Well at WSK Euro Series in La Conca

A record number of 10 North American drivers contested the third round of the WSK Euro Series as they visited the International Circuit La Conca in Muro Leccese, Italy. The weather was extremely warm and track conditions saw inches of rubber laid down, bringing about conditions never seen by many of the drivers from the United States and Canada. While the North Americans were shut out of the podium finishes on the weekend, four drivers recorded top-10 finishes in three categories.

Canadian Phillip Orcic was the KZ2 championship leader after winning at the opening round in Sarno. Since then, he has yet to return to the podium but recorded his best finish with a fifth place. Driving for CRG Holland aboard a Zanardi chassis with TM power, Orcic qualified fifth in the 15 kart field. After the heat races, he fell to 12th in the classification for the opening final. He was able to advance to 8th and score five championship points. Another two rounds of mixed results in the second group of heat races put him ninth on the grid for final 2. Able to avoid any opening lap skirmish, Orcic was able to battle his way up to fifth when the checkered flag fell. American Daniel Formal - driving for Ward Racing aboard a Tony Kart/Vortex machine - made his second start in the series with results of 12th and 10th.

American Dalton Sargeant recorded the best finish of the four drivers from the west in the KF3 category, placing sixth in the final. Sargeant led the quintet in qualifying, just missing out on the SuperPole session as he sat 13th overall after all 61 drivers recorded their fast laps. With four finishes better than eighth place, Sargeant (Ward Racing/Tony Kart/Vortex) ended up ninth in the final heat classification and drove to fourth in the Prefinal A. Starting seventh, Sargeant gained one position overall to finish sixth and now stands ninth in the championship standings. Lance Stroll led things for the two Canadian drivers in the field, finishing 12th in the main event. Stroll (Chiesa Corse/Zanardi/Parilla) was 15th in qualifying and showed well in the heat races to end up 13th in final classification. He finished just two spots back of Sargeant in the Prefinal A event, leading to his 12th place performance. American Santino Ferrucci (Energy Corse/Energy/TM) also made the show after battling back from a 35th in qualifying. Santino was 33rd after the heat races and raced his way into the show with a ninth place in Prefinal A after starting 17th. He then drove to 18th in the main event and sits 10th in the championship standings. Canadian Zachary Claman DeMelo (CRG S.P.A./CRG/BMB) missed out of the feature race, struggling through the heat races and missing out in Prefinal A by three positions.

Four drivers from North America contested the 60 Mini division with Devlin DeFrancesco posting the best finish of ninth. Logan Sargeant (Ward Racing/Tony Kart/LKE) led the way for the group in qualifying, placing 13th. DeFrancesco (DFR/Top Kart/LKE) was 15th with his brother Lachlan in 21st and Antonio Serravalle (Baby Race/Tony Kart/LKE) in 25th. After the heat races, Devlin worked his way up to seventh in the classifications. Sargeant was primed for a solid start until a DNF in heat three dropped him down to 13th in the final classification. DeFrancesco continued driving forward, finishing fourth in the eight-lap Prefinal with Sargeant advancing to sixth. Starting from the outside line, the duo was slowed up at the start of the final, losing positions early. DeFrancesco would go on to finish ninth with Sargeant placing 12th. Serravalle was 21st after 10 laps with Lachlan in 23rd for his first start at the WSK Euro Series. With the 60 Mini division contesting just two rounds, the championship concluded with Sargeant finishing the series third in the standings with DeFrancesco in eighth.

The remainder of the categories will continue on to the series finale, set for August 2-5 at the International Circuit de Zuera in Zaragoza, Spain.
