Southeast Karting Challenge Wrapped Up at Dallas Karting Complex
Article by: southeastkartingchallenge.com

The final round of the Southeast Karting Challenge was held last weekend at Dallas Karting Complex in Caddo Mills Texas. Practice for drivers started on Wednesday thru Friday. Drivers from Colorado, California, Indiana, Iowa, Florida and Texas attended the final round at DKC.

Brian Robson of Billet Performance brought down some of his heavy hitters and his drivers were fast from the beginning. Greg Welch of Unser Racing brought a few of his select drivers and they all had targets on their backs after their first practice round as well. Michael Benyahia (Mini Max) had more stop watches timing him than anyone. Benyahia was blistering fast around the 0.8-mile sprint track at DKC the entire weekend. Derek Scott Jr. (Mini Max) and David Illavia (Mini Max) were on the chase after Benyahia all weekend. Scott Falcone of Billet Performance arrived on Thursday and showed he was ready to rumble with the rest of the DD2 Masters drivers, but Brent Harper driving the DKC prepared DD2 Sodikart was the driver to beat all weekend.

Junior Max was the largest attended field and Michael Illavia arrived to DKC with guns blazing. Jason Dempster, Lindsay Brewer, Nathan Adds, Colin Russell, Sergey Blansit, Grant Copple, Mitch Mark IV, Pierce Dawlett, Carson Pittman and Mason McGinty were the drivers who attempted to chase Michael Illavia for both rounds of the finals. Will Owen, Tyler Edwards and Sean Owens had some of the best battles on track that DKC spectators had ever witnessed in Senior Max. “Hurricane” Hannah Greenemeier dominated the Micro Max class all weekend, finishing 16 full seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the Final. Seven drivers attended the shifter category but no one could handle the power that Conner Wagner was putting down. Wagner set a new track record with a 52.850-second lap on Sunday, beating out Miguel Lopez’ record which was set last October 2011.

The Southeast Karting Challenge awarded seven full entries to the 2012 Rotax United States Grand Nationals to lucky winners that were drawn randomly Sunday morning. With the Red Bull tunes blasting out of the mobile MXT event vehicle, the racing Sunday was fierce for spectators and teams to watch. Solid Metal Red Bull series awards were given after the race ceremony to racers who had participated in the complete series for points.

The SEKC would like to thank host facilities NOLA Motorsport Park and Dallas Karting Complex for being series host for 2012. The SEKC would also like to thank sponsors Red Bull, VP Racing Fuels, MG Tires, Ribtect3 and PKT for their support of the racing series.
