IKF 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals Just Around the Corner

As the heart of the 2012 karting season is upon us, it is time for the annual International Kart Federation (IKF) 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals. With the 2012 edition of the event taking place June 20-23 at the Big Fresno Fairgrounds in Fresno, California, and hosted by the Kerman Kart Club, competitors will all be racing for the prestigious IKF Duffy award, an excellent addition to any driver's trophy case.

Listening to competitors over the years, the IKF 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals will take place on a temporary circuit at the Fresno Fairgrounds in central California. Taking the 'Home Track Advantage' out of the equation, the Kerman Kart Club will set up a unique design and track layout that will challenge drivers and mechanics alike.

"Some of the biggest races in the United States are held on temporary circuits,"expressed Kerman Kart Club's Ron Perry. "This year's layout will include a challenging design with a lot of passing opportunities as well as a ton of run off. Also, American Ambulance will be on site to assist with any medical needs that should arise during the event."

With the goal of providing a fun, yet competitive event, the Kerman Kart Club has also implemented ideas to keep the overall cost of the event to a minimum for their competitors. With a low price on entry fees and a good hotel rate for IKF competitors, Kerman Kart Club is also allowing any team, family or driver to camp in their self contained pit area, free of charge. Camping spots are also located on the property with full hook-ups and will be charged at $20.00 per evening. For onsite campers and all event goers, the Fresno Fairgrounds facility has permanent bathrooms and showers that are available free of charge.

Perry continued, "At a lot of events, we always hear the same thing about the facilities and we wanted to ensure that our location was met with high standards. Not only are the facilities great, but we have also rented the Industrial Education Building (11,000 square) that will house pre and post race technical inspection, the scales, some display booths as well as providing an eating area and will allow competitors to get out of the heat to cool off."

Working with the school districts on the western half of the United States, the Kerman Kart Club chose to host the IKF 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals the week of June 20-23 to ensure youngsters would be able to attend and not fall behind on their education. Not only is a good racer a smart racer, but also the Kerman Kart Club feels that these kinds of plans will help ensure increased participation and satisfaction in the years to come.

"Ron Perry and everyone at the Kerman Kart Club have done a fantastic job in getting prepared for this event," explained IKF President Bill Hilger. "The Kerman Kart Club crew specializes in temporary track designs and layouts, and I have total confidence in what they have planned. I have no doubt that this year's edition of the 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals will be the best yet and I look forward to building momentum for the years to come."

In 2012, the International Kart Federation will continue a legacy of tradition this coming 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals with the presentation of the Lake Speed Achievement of Excellence award. The perpetual award, honoring the 1978 World Karting Champion, will honor the seventh annual recipient at the conclusion of the event in Fresno, California.

The future award winner will be voted on by a panel of judges and could be a driver, team, kart shop or combination thereof. Former recipients, along with a panel of scouts, will determine a winner based on a multitude of criteria including sportsmanship, competitive achievement, benevolence and professional appearance during the race event.

With a host of multiple activities happening during the event, the Vintage Kart Club Of America will have several historical vintage karts appearing at this year's IKF Grand Nationals. From early production single engines to very fast dual engine karts will be on display as well as performing on track. As a bonus for all karters, Richard Kennedy will be performing his amazing "This Side Up" driving demonstration each day during the event. Richard navigates the entire course on two wheels, and has entertained audiences all over the USA and Australia--a MUST SEE!

Please stop by and see the fabulous "BUG MUSEUM". A collection of racing memorabilia placed on display by the legendary "Lady Bug" Faye Pierson. Faye, along with her late husband Tom, manufactured the BUG brand of racing karts for many years. Faye continues to serve karting on all levels today with her K&P Manufacturing Co.

Kerman Kart Club has put together some great class sponsorship opportunities, with packages that have great value and benefits that will meet your company's needs. This is a great event and time to show the karting community you're dedicated to the sport.
