| OC Challenge in the Dirt 2 Set for July 15 |
| |
The second annual “OC Challenge in the Dirt” will return to the Orange County (California) Fair and Event Center on July 15 as part of the opening weekend of the Orange County Fair! Classes will include: Cadet, Junior, Senior Pro, 4-cycle, and Open Pro.
“We’re thrilled to be back for a second year at OC Fair and Event Center,” says promoter Jeff Axton. “Our first event, in 2011, drew a large spectator and competitor crowds and we’re only expecting it to be bigger this year.”
2011 was the first OC Challenge in the Dirt, and it attracted a wide variety of 2-cycle engines and sprint chassis. While most of the karts and drivers in 2011 usually compete on asphalt road/sprint tracks, they took advantage of the test days leading up to the event to tune their karts and skills for the dirt. The 2012 event Test Days are: June 30 and July 7-8 and since payment isn’t due on entries till race day, the test days give karters a unique opportunity to “try it before they buy it”.
“Dirt karting is making a comeback in So-Cal,” states event sponsor and karting tire manufacturer Mike Burris. “It’s a nice change of pace for local karters, and it’s cool for them to race in front of thousands of people. Jeff and his staff have done an excellent job building the event and bringing recognition back to dirt karting where it all started!”
Spectator admission is free with a paid admission to the Orange County Fair. Axton stated, “We’re expecting to have at least 5,000 spectators, what a great opportunity to expose karting and have a chance to try something a little bit different!”
