Moving up from the Mini Max ranks at the beginning of 2012, Rotax Junior rookie Sebastian Sierra continues to turn heads in the ultra-competitive 12-15 year old age category. Starting the season strong at the Florida Winter Tour, Sierra added to his resume with a pair of podiums at the most recent round of the Florida Karting Championship Series in Orlando, Florida. Taking place at the newly revamped Orlando Kart Center, Sierra went on to claim the third position in the TaG Junior class on Saturday, and backed it up Sunday with the same result in Rotax Junior.

"It has been a good start to my rookie year in Junior," expressed the 13-year-old Sierra. "I expected to be fast and run close to the front of the field but understood that this would be a big learning year for me. There are a lot of drivers with way more experience than I have and I was just hoping to do well in 2012 and set myself up for a successful season in 2013."

After progressing through the Florida Winter Tour with a 16th place in the overall series championship and having never missed a main event, Sierra set his sights on the Florida Karting Championship Series (FKCS) where he has scored some impressive results. Heading to one of his favorite tracks in the Sunshine State, Sierra did not disappoint as he battled at the pointy end of the field throughout the weekend.

After qualifying in the second position for Saturday's TaG Junior division, Sierra would fall back to third in the prefinal as his Rotax powerplant struggled to keep pace with the much quicker TaG engines in the field. With the strength of the Rotax through the infield, Sierra could not get close enough down the main straight to make an out braking maneuver to move forward. Looking to get a good start in the main event and hold his competitors at bay, Sierra quickly slotted into the third position and never looked back. Trying to mount a challenge on the lead duo, the Florida resident would cross the stripe in the third position.

Back to the track on Sunday, Sierra would do battle in the Rotax Junior category. With all the drivers on the same engine brand, the field would be much more even and Sierra would show his strength. Narrowly missing the pole position during Sunday morning's timed run, Sierra would claim the second position and outside front row starting spot for the prefinal.

Quickly jumping into the lead at the start of the prefinal, a trio of drivers would battle hard for the top spot. Falling back to the second position, Sierra would make a late race charge for the point but come up just shy when the checkered flag flew. Finishing in the second position, the Rotax Junior rookie would set the fastest race lap of the prefinal and would be very excited about his chances heading to the main event.

Anticipating a hard fought battle in the final, Sierra and a host of other drivers would battle for the top spot all race long. With the top four being separated by less than a second at the end of the race, Sierra would garner the same position as he did in Saturday's main event as he would cross the stripe in the third position.

Sierra continued, "It was a great weekend of racing and I am glad that I was able to run at the front of the field. This is the experience I need to challenge for race wins and championships next year."
