Traveling with the Ocala Gran Prix race team, brothers Alex and Mikey Hornborg would see action at the newly repaved Orlando Kart Center for the penultimate round of the Florida Karting Championship Series (FKCS). With championship chases shaping up and set to be decided in a few weeks, Alex would see action in both TaG Junior and Rotax Junior while Mikey would compete in the ultra competitive Rotax Mini Max class.

Proceeding through Friday's unofficial test day, Alex and Mikey would arrive at the facility Saturday morning ready for competition. With both drivers utilizing Ocala Grand Prix prepared Rotax powered Tony Karts, Saturday morning would bring bright and sunny skies, as the duo would look for race wins and podiums.

Competing in the TaG Junior category, Alex Hornborg would put his Rotax powered machine up against a variety of different engine and chassis combinations around the tricky Orlando Kart Center. Qualifying inside the fourth row, Alex would start his wheel-to-wheel competition from the seventh position. Looking to move forward throughout the day, Alex had a slight bobble in the prefinal as he fell outside the top ten. Working hard to get back up to his original starting position, Hornborg would fall short at the line to come home 11th.

Taking the green flag for the start of the main event, Alex would look to pick off a few karts early. Showing some speed in the main event, Alex would cross the stripe in the eighth position.

Younger brother Mikey would also be in competition on Saturday as he would do battle in the always competitive Rotax Mini Max field. Just like his older brother, Mikey would improve throughout Friday's unofficial practice day to turn the ninth quickest time in Saturday morning's qualifying effort.

Looking for more when wheel-to-wheel action commenced, Mikey would hold station in the prefinal but would improve his overall fastest lap time. While most drivers slowed down from their qualifying laps, Mikey was one of only a handful that improved their time in the short heat race, which was a positive heading into the main event. Hoping for greater improvement in the final, Mikey was involved in a first corner incident that sent him down the running order to the tail of the field. Working hard to maneuver his way forward, the up and coming driver would slide his way back into the top ten before making a slight mistake that would cost him a few positions as he would eventually cross the line in the 11th position.

Back to the track on Sunday, Alex would be the only Hornborg that would be behind of the wheel, this time in the Rotax Junior class. Switching from the Bridgestone to the much more slick Mojo tires and competing in a class in which every motor was the same brand, Alex would show his speed early with a fifth place result in qualifying.

With the goal to finish in the top five in the prefinal and set up a good starting spot for the main event, Alex did just that as he gained one position in the heat race and would line up outside row two for the final. With a difficult outside row starting position, Alex took it all in stride and managed to move forward to the second position after the opening complex of corners before being involved in an incident. Sent spiraling down the running order, Alex would need to battle his way back forward to come come home seventh.

With a weekend off from the karting scene, Alex will get back behind the wheel of his F1000 machine in Talladega, Alabama. Both Alex and Mikey will return to their home facility on June 8-9 for the next round in the North Florida Rotax Max Challenge. Working to secure enough punches to travel to the United States Rotax Grand Nationals in Indiana later this year, the Hornborgs will continue to hone their skills to have the chance to become the United States National Champion in their respective divisions.
