The 2012 season of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championships began this weekend at Goodwood Kartways in Stouffville, Ontario. The event presented races 1 & 2 of this 6 race championships. Team SRA Karting was composed of Zacharie Robichon, Ben Cooper and Christophe Boisclair in the Rotax DD2 class and by Olivier Bédard and Jeffrey Kingsley in Rotax Max Junior.
SRA’s drivers did very well throughout the weekend, finishing in the top 10 in every session. Saturday was the best of the weekend with three podiums. In the Junior Max final, Olivier Bédard took the second place just behind the winner Parker Thompson, from Alberta while Jeffrey Kingsley just missed the podium when he finished 4th. In the final race of the day, Ben Cooper led most of the race before winner Pier-Luc Ouellette passed him with two laps to go. Christophe Boisclair joined them on the podium in 3rd place. Zacharie Robichon couldn’t finish the race due to a mechanical problem.
Sunday started very well for Bédard which took the polpe in qualifying and he crossed the finish line first but he lost the win it at the tech. Kingsley finish the pre-final 6th. In the final race, Kingsley had the best results with a 5th place and Bédard finished 10th after he started last.
In Rotax DD2, Cooper, Boisclair and Robichon continued to show speed. After the 2nd fast time in qualifying, Cooper finished the pre-final 2nd and almost passed Pier-Luc Ouellette on the last lap. Cooper closed the weekend with two 2nd position. Christophe Boisclair was on his way for a second 3rd place in two days but Daniel Burkett surprised him when he overtook Boisclair with two corners to go. Zacharie Robichon finished 8th.
